I can barely use synths properly, yet alone understand how the fuck to build one.
Impressive!

Re: Sega Mega Drive Synthesizer
Well actually the synth itself is already built into the sega so the guy mainly built a controler for it. But that's already impressive indeedjordanneke wrote: ↑Sat Jan 18, 2020 5:56 pmI can barely use synths properly, yet alone understand how the fuck to build one.

That was not only funny and cool, as always with LMNC, but it sounded very impressive!
Just had a look... You can find consoles for 25-50€ easily, a midi port can be bought for 80$, a BCR2000, I have two laying around...

I also had a look around and there are diy kit synths and all sorts if you want to go down the road. It would be very accessible.

I really want an FM for the live set, and it seems like a great option, wanted one for a while.
I`ll mainly be using it for evolving drones and pads.

Can't have this discussion without mentioning the Streets of Rage series and in particular number 2 - some all time classic video game music made on that chip. But wow, the LMNC bloke is going next level here, that's awesome. He's awesome. Pretty sure the chip is in fact a Yamaha one. Turning it modular... Respect.

Re: Sega Mega Drive Synthesizer
i LOVE this!
one of my favourite eurorack modules is based on the OPL3 yamaha chip which was used in old Adlib / Soundblaster sound cards. It's quite similar to the Sega Megadrive Yamaha chip which is the OPN2. They're both dirty bois

Re: Sega Mega Drive Synthesizer
I think it's great. I did the DIY kit and had it running within about 3 hours of opening the box. You also have soldering experience right? It's not a beginner project but it's easily doable for someone with some experience.Lost to the Void wrote: ↑Sun Jan 19, 2020 8:29 pmOoh, how is the preenfm2?terryfalafel wrote: ↑Sun Jan 19, 2020 8:09 pmThat sounds genuinely good. All the sounds are there and for me, the sound quality is great. It's slightly fiddly to use (little screen and buttons) but could be expanded with a hardware controller for live use. There's a software configurator doobery to expose the controls in your daw which was a pain to use in its earlier iterations but is much better now I believe.
For the money it's a no brainer imo. The developer is really active on his forum and updates are still coming out for it.
I got the metal case to go with it which I'd say is a good bet compared to the laser cut acrylic cases.
I'm on my phone so that's the short version. If you have any more questions, let me know!
