Advanced video tutorial for ableton live?

Post by dylanlolwut »

Hey guys,
Can anybody recommend me some tutorial videos for ableton? I'm looking for the more advanced, technical side of ableton, or even just tips and tricks to do with the built in effects. Just want to get the most out of ableton that I can.
I went onto Lynda.com to check for tutorials but they don't have a lot to choose from and they're more aimed at beginners I think..
I find tutorial videos work better for me then reading a blog, but if anyone knows any short-ish tuts with just text showing off what ableton is fully capable of, I'd greatly appreciate them
Greetings, brethren. Checketh out mine soundeth-cloud!

You might try the Sonic Academy Ableton Tech Tips series. They are shorter videos that assume a basic level of understanding and show you some unique features/tricks.

I saw some good stuff on Ask (I think it was) they had Ableton 101's - but some more advanced 301's (??) and some good tips & tricks vids.

I watched on a free 30 day sub. I think you can get a sub per month or buy each course. I'd recommend gettting to watch as many as poss rather than DL'n as some of them were quite basic.

Ask me what in particular I seen now & I'd be lost.. However it passed some time, at the time.

Hey Dylan,

could you be more specific about the things you'd like to learn? Imho Ableton isn't that technical at all, and there are tons of valuable resources on production techniques out there. That also apply to Ableton.

soundonsound.com is one of those. You'd have to read though.

Cheers
Ronny

Haha, I doubt that would be an issue!

I found a couple on point blank like a stereo widening effects rack and an eq type send effects rack but don't have any bookmarks...
Simple AFTER you go through it the first time but helps you to develop racks to suit yourself, well it did for me anyway ..

Obviously not THAT one ;) But watching fellas like Yoad Nevo telling about the way they produce/mix whatever stuff bears some jolly good hints for sure.

Mr. Bill has some impressive 'out there' tutorials. Things with titles like 'exponential rhtyhms' and stuff like that. He really goes into some of the lesser known features in Ableton and exploits them brilliantly

This book i'm reading first, I skipped chap. 1 because i more or less know all that already from experience, i'm on chapter 2 now reading about music theory as I know nothing about chords, scales or anything like that, so far so good!

the second book i picked up was this one
http://www.amazon.com/Composition-Compu ... 1598638610

Flicked through some of the covers before I bought it and i saw it actually breaks down the elements of each sort of sample, i guess? (what i mean is kick, snare etc.)
Also seems to covers a lot about audio and midi effects

Might be too easy for you but there's a Coursera on for Ableton right now (over the month of February).

https://class.coursera.org/abletonlive-001/

I'm going through it just to review some things and hopefully learn a bit more about the session view. I do the vast majority of my work in arrangement but now that I'm getting a new live show ready I want to make it as live as possible.

+1 on Mr bill's tunes videos, and also Tom Cosm videos. They both produce glitch hop, which is pretty technical music.
Ableton is easy to learn and doesn't have as much features as other DAW, so there is not much to learn.
The magic of Ableton is learning how to use its features creatively, things like tips and tricks.
I learned things from Mr. Bill that i couldn't find anywhere else, so do check him out!
