Hades has invaded this topic :D. I've already missed him in this topic.
Some great points he's been adding for the future gear obsessed people. Maybe I've romanticized it a bit; he is a bit more clear about the possible problems. That's why I've already mentioned the time consuming stuff like building accoustic panels and repairing broken gear.

To my dear beloved Hades:
I'm sorry that we haven't had your dream date in the studio :D. I hope someday you can forgive me .

To be honest Hades didn`t post enough photos.
I expected at least to also see his underwear and sock draw, and also the cutlery collection in the kitchen.

building the panels was a LOT more time consuming than I would have guessed upfront,
and I left out your lovely side panel method.
I don't think you've romanticized it at all.
I just thought a little demystification was in order.
Maybe it was a typical Hades ramble, but even if those have come more rare nowadays,
I really do like to warn people upfront and show them the other side of the whole gear fetish thing.

en ja, die lekkere droom date. Rrrrrrrrrrrr..... :P :P

you know what the worst part is about this "furry clam" ?
I paid him in advance.
An extremely rare memory card was sent to him,
wrapped in an envelope containing the perfect gift card explaining him the hard truth about his mrs.
Totally free.
Still waiting for any signs of gratitude, and meanwhile my productions still suck FFS...
Ugh, disappointment after disappointment...

still on top of my stand, and yeah,
if my studio would burn down, it would be one of the few synths I would buy again almost immediately (if I had the cash).

Hades, how do you use A6 usually in your tracks? Just as a synth with huge polyphony, or in multitimbral mode utilizing separete outputs, etc? Do you program it it via front panel or with some editor?

Despite having Andromeda since 2010, it's most of the time just sitting under dust cover and I'm really shamed how seldom I turn it on. But when I play it, I'm soss happy about having one and will patiently wait those peaceful pensioner days somewhere far far in the future.

Edit: And here this idiot cunt derails the thread from the topic (photos).

sorry man, saw your reply yesterday, but currently helping out an old couple who live nearby,
and the guy is suffering from dementia that is very (very) slowly creeping in. Painful situation.

Ok, Hadestalkalot, get to the point... I barely use my A6 much in my tracks at all.
I think it's a combination of 2 things : the fact that I don't make tracks that need a lot of fat basses or more "typical analog" pad sounds,
which it's best suited for, but mostly because I'm currently in a situation where I make my tracks with maybe 70% SW and 30% HW.
This percentage level constantly fluctuates, but yeah, the 70/30 level has been consistent for quite a few years now,
and definitely my most productive years.
I think I told this above, but I bought my 1st HW synth in like '94, so I've been there in the days when HW was the ONLY option,
and slowly heard how SW synths became better and better.
Other than that, I've made it a point while slowly building my studio that I wanted pretty much every possible synthesis method present (RA, VA, FM, romper/sampler, wavetable, additive, granular,...) I'm not saying I always use all these methods, and I definitely don't use all my synths enough in my tracks. But there's the synth loving part, and there's the music making part. And though the main stress will always be the music making part, it doesn't mean you can't hold on to some pieces of gear because you just love them so much. :)

So... there's the aspect of sound design, and my love for synths (and no, that does NOT need to be vintage, though I do have quite a few vintage ones).
And I think the Andromeda is an absolutely GREAT sounding analog synth, with an extremely easy interface to work with.
And the amount of instant control you have is just damn right awesome : the ribbon controller, the chord function, the view function.
It might not have an "eternal sweet spot", like for example the Juno-60, but if you start programming sounds on it, it's one of the deepest, most flexible and most diverse analog synths you'll ever find.
I LOVE sound, therefore I LOVE synths (though obviously also FX and anything post-synth in the sound chain), but since I've been through so many of them over the years, I LOVE proper interfaces.
Practicality is a big thing for me, so for me, the Andromeda is extremely hard to beat in that respect.

ow, and I NEVER use it in multitimbral mode. I don't sequence my synths. I play the parts manually and record them as audio clips in Live (unless it's some kind of arpeggiator running). I like to jam on my synths, and when I find something I can use, I record it as an audio clip.
If I think there's enough there, I start building a track, but most of the times, the clips just end up in my (by now rather gigantic) clip library.

So yeah, there's many clips in my clip library where I used the A6, but I don't think it ended up a lot in finished tracks of mine.
(I think the pulsating bass in "The Age Of Innocence" was done with my A6, but I'm not sure, I would have to check to be sure)

I think your question really is : shouldn't I be selling it if I don't use it enough in my tracks ?
That's a hard one to answer, because the answer will be different for all of us.

But let me give you a small example to illustrate my situation :
last X-mas, I had 2 subsekt members over, one of them for 2 weeks, another for barely 3 days.
Even though the 2nd guy was only staying 3 days, he insisted on trying out my 303.
I told him upfront "look, I DISPISE the internal sequencer, so in my opinion, there are a LOT better synths to try here. But yeah, no prob, go ahead, but you're on your own" (I was having some kind of semi-flue at the time). It took him like 2 hours to understand how to program the most basic sequence,
but he got there eventually, and I walked in and heard the sound (obviously when run through external FX) and went like "damn it, now that's why I keep it, best bass sound I ever heard".
But you can't hear it on any of my tracks. If you hear a 303, it's always just a SW plugin.
Why ? Cause it's more convenient. Simple as that.
Should I sell it ? No doubt. But yeah, I'm a synth guy, and prices have only gone up more since then.

Anyway, I told the guy : "look first you go ahead and get a headache with the 303 for a few hours, tonight, I'll turn on my Xpander, and though this is, afaik, the DEEPEST analog synth ever made, I can explain you it's interface in like 2 minutes, and we'll just have a jam session on that, just to show you the difference in gear interfaces, you know ?" So we did, and we recorded like half an hour of just him changing the sound (literally from the sound it started to burst out when being switched on (yeah, it does that)), and me using external FX units on the sound.

Do I use my Xpander a lot in my tracks. Nope, just once in a while,
but yeah, it's such a unique synth, I'd much sooner sell my 303 than my Xpander, even though I did pay full fairly "recent" market prices for both of them (which is not the case for all my other vintage gear, including my A6).

Difficult question man, always is.
When in doubt, and not in need for money or room, then keeping it is usually the better option, I think.

new chair arrived like a month ago.
I should post more recent pics, for example including some of the new panels and shit,
or the 40" tv I installed wednesday instead of my 14" screen,
but I haven't even had the time to spend some proper hours in there.
