Experimental/listening electronic music

Post by The_G »

In the mood for something different. Since we have diverse tastes here, I was wondering if we could share producers/bands/labels/whatever doing electronic music that's not meant for the dance floor and is also pushing the envelope. Doesn't have to be techno, but I'm always interested in new techno.

One label I've been into lately is Enfant Terrible. Check it out: https://www.enfant-terrible.nl

If you've ever gone straight to bed after a few hours in a club and had melodies and rhythms fade in and out, swimming in your head...

Vladislav Delay

His "Four Quarters" is beautiful ..

I just revisited this last night while doing some work and it is really great. I'm sure plenty of heads here are familiar with Alvo Noto and his label. This is up there with my favourite Raster Noton releases now.

I have only listened this this twice since getting it. It reminds me of Autechre while still having its own sound signature. Lots of interesting ideas , some of which I wish he fleshed out a bit more.

Even though these two records contain tracks that have been creeping into my Dj sets I would consider them to be listening/experimental. They are also both really worth picking up so I thought Id share them too.

Always enjoyed listening to some Arcane Device, saw he has some new bits out as well the past year.

Lapalux has some of the most intricately detailed production ive ever heard. Listen in good headphones.

Really amazing stuff...

haven't kept up on them much over the past few years, but i've been a big fan of the KVITNU label for quite a while now.

http://www.kvitnu.com

ranges from completely "free form/experimental" to more beat driven and industrial influenced sounds.

Oh yes, Bvdub, audible opiates is how I would describe his music, or maybe that was just me eating too much codeine.

I used to play this LP a lot by Tim Hecker.

Yes, Autechre.

If you're not familiar with Detroit Underground, you should be. The label's output oozes with idiosyncratic releases from drone to ambien, glitched experimental to electro, techno to whatever they feel like subjecting people to. After that get familiar with Schematic and if that's not enough, have a go at V/Vm.

Cheers -- Nuutti.

Quick tip - Rephlex, now-defunct label ran by The Aphex Twin and Grant Wilson-Claridge. Wading through the release catalog requires effort but rewards a coinnosseur of weird shit handsomely. --Nuutti.
