Just as a heads up. Not familiar with the Opus format but apparently it introduces some weird artifacts at 64kbs even though it's supposedly technically better than mp3 at the same bitrate.

Soundcloud taking another hot steamy shit on their dinner plate, yet again...

Their conversion/playback quality has always been shockingly shit considering how big of a streaming platform theyve been for years...

Heeeeeey, cassette can sound great. I've mastered a number of releases specifically for cassette labels this year, (including one of my own) and they sound great. You just have to understand the format and work with it.

But also..... Teehee.

I'm counting the days until Strobococklick Shartifacts release a wax cyclinder only EP.

They will most likely not tag down the price for their service however. They should be abandoned

Doesn't this help to stop people ripping music from soundcloud if the quality is poor?

That should be your call, especially if you are paying a sub for an account ..

I cancelled my pro plan last year and just use the free SoundCloud now.
Not really noticed the difference to how I use it, and they don't deserve my money.
I urge everyone to do the same.

Unfortunately you need a pro account if you primarily host mixes because of the upload limit. No way you need a pro account if you only upload single tracks though.

I dropped my pro account the first time they tried to get all super hard and tag one of my mixes for copyright infringement, I also pulled down all my mixes. I stuck the same one back up after they said they stopped doing it, and it hasn't been tagged yet. Pissed me right off with "You get three strikes" bullshit.

I dropped my subscription years ago. Can't remember why as it was so long ago. It's still a sad thing to see sound clouds demise as it was such a great networking platform for the likes of me. But times change. I just hope something else comes along soon that has the small independent at heart (at least in the short term)

I guess the Opus codec is better than mp3, so 64hpbs Opus isn't the same as 64kbps mp3, but the A/Bs I've heard are not promising.

It was never for hosting mixes though.....

Mixes is why the site took off though. Before Soundcloud hosting mixes was a pain in the ass, you had to own a website for hosting or use download providers without a streaming/preview option that always expired sooner rather than later. That whole new generation of Traktor bedroom DJs needed a site to host their mixes and Soundcloud came around at the right time.

I re-uploaded one of my tracks where I continued to work on and where I haven't touched the low-end at all. The result is shocking to me, the new upload sounds so fucking thin that, if I wouldn't know that it's not thin I would totally re-consider working on the low-end. So what's the Soundcloud alternative? And why are they doing that?

There's some kind of chrome quality restore plugin I've been using for soundcloud. I'm not sure if it works or anything else.

Think about it...and...€€€
There's a massive amount of streaming going on at any one time. If you can't keep up (or don't want to maintain it/want to scale it back/forecasting future resources) the comprimise is quality.

The balance is always there: cost v quality ..
