+1 for Matthias.

Also yours Mono.

That apart I like the default Geist.

One of my mates used to work for Loopmasters so I was loaded up with all of their stuff and the vengeance packs. SHIT. don't use any of them any more.

My cousin have me about 20gigs of Maschine samples which I also used to use a fair bit before Geist. I've converted most of it to Logic EXS format.
The strings and pads are not bad, something I may go back to.

Dave The Drummer is a great one alright. The loops are very inspirational.

Standard 808 / 909 looppacks from Goldbaby & Wave Alchemy.. Drum Tools from Wave Alchemy. Stock Ableton ones. Dont use anything else really

I think by far the best sample source is http://www.freesound.org/
Sample packs, especially if made for techno and then used in techno are inherently untechno for me.

Diffusion of useful noise by nine inch nails sample-smith Keith hillebrandt is quite nice, full of non obvious stuff you have to work with to make use of.

Another vote for Matthias' samples (more please!)
The Geist default content and the Cinematic drums add-on
My own synth one shots, usually processed a bit (mainly kicks)
Some free wave alchemy stuff- probably going to purchase a couple of these at some point

A friend of mine asked me set aside some of my field recordings. Being named 'zoom001'into 'zoom265' it was quite refreshing to cycle through it all and i rediscovered some pretty brilliant samples. I dont really download anything since i got the recorder tbh.

Oh and on that note, id be more then happy to upload a pack containing most of the clean and useful ones if anyone is interested. It would come down to about 60-70 samples and maybe 250-300 mb.. There is only one catch, im probably not going to process any of them and i probably wont rename them either :D

I was out n about for work on Monday so took mine with me. Downloaded and listened the next day some pretty cool stuff.
The only thing about field recording is that finding original sounds can be quite tricky. Or I always seem to miss the best unique sounds fumbling about to get it turned on in time :x

occasional stock ableton sample if i need some inspiration. but i prefer to rely on my own field recordings (mostly recorded in the field that is my kitchen) and samples. more fun for me.

Shit, that reminds me, I have a whole bunch of stuff on my field recorder I need to transfer. Took it everywhere with me on my recent holiday.

I was fortunate enough to inherit over tens years worth of FM/CM and MT mags years ago, along with all the samples from there. Majority I wouldn't even consider using, but there are a few which sound ultra retro and have a nice bit of character to them.

I only use Mattias' sample pack. Rest is default maschine/ableton stuff. I find it hard to work with other people's audio files :(

Do it. I only record stuff through my phone (actually better quality that you'd think), but always appreciate some decently recorded field recordings. I wouldn't mind picking up a recorder at some point, but I don't really know where to start- any recommendations for under £100?

+1 for Driven Machine Drums, they're my obvious go-to for drum sounds.

I would hold out for a zoom h2n which is going to be 150, maybe a little more. The difference between that one and the super budget recorders is enormous (much better build, 5 mics etc).

Cheers Twilitez, looks like they can be had for £120ish which isn't so bad. I might pick one up later this year.

Then definitely go for that. They also have the h1 which is the super compact little brother of it, but that one has alot less options and a much more fragile plasticy build, not worth it imo.
