Stupid Q - Are my 4 track channels mono or stereo?
Stupid Q - Are my 4 track channels mono or stereo?
Hello,
I've just been given a Tascam Portastudio 07. Thought it could be cool to record out some oneshots or synths and resample back in.
Are the channels stereo or mono? So if I want stereo, do I need to record to two channels on the recorder or can I use a 2x RCA to 1/4" stereo and use one channel?
Looks like this:
I've tried Googling around this to save embarrassment but I can't find anything, which leads me to think this question is hilariously stupid...

Ooh, my first ever recording device was that exact model. I still have it, it was the beginning of my journey.
Yes, 4 mono channels.

Hah - nice, my Dad found it in his loft. He used to have drum machines, pedals and all sorts, but sadly all sold well before my time.
Nice, thanks!
Would you recommend recording two channels for stereo or just putting through one mono channel?
I just plan to try and record some one shots, maybe overdrive a synth line or a kick. I doubt I'll do a whole mixdown through it, though I might try out of curiosity/to pretend i'm Legowelt.

And is the master out stereo or mono?
I wonder if this is all in the manual...

Master out?
You have line out and monitoring in the back, both are L\R ie stereo

Ah yeah cool, thanks.
There is a 'master' on the front, can just see the red ring in the photos, I guess that's for headphone monitoring?
I'll read the manual tonight, thanks

Master is labelling the master fader, not the red ringed headphone output. The 2 are not related.

That's a great attic find. I intend on getting something like this next year when I'm in my new place. Enjoy!
