Whats you favourite Max for Live devices?

Post by calum666 »

Basically, as the title says, whats your favorite max for live devices. I've had max for live since I got Live 9 a few years ago but I never really use it much. Was just looking for some cool new things to experiment with.

I made a M4L thread a while ago. Robert Henke aka Monolake has some great stuff on his website. You can also find all the publically available devices on the Max4Live website.

Whenever I'm having hard time creating melodies I use either one of these to get some ideas:

Really like Time & Timbre by skinnerbox, instant rhytm machine and if you scale the notes you can get lots of ideas for riffs. The lfo module that is included is lots of fun also.

LFO Tool is included in one of the freely available M4L packs for Live Suite. Modulate ANY mapable parameter anywhere in live. I use this on everything.

Convolution Reverb is pretty damn good too.

I get a lot of mileage from Dub Machines, a really cool RE-201 Space Echo emulation.

I've used mainly the bundled stuff.

Lfo tool ftw. The mono sequencer is also bad ass. There's a simple 303 type synth in there also that's nice & straightforward.

Outer Spaces is a great reverb that can do some serious sound mangling.

If you guys have Push, Spektro is a great step sequencer that works well /w Push.

I did some procastinating today and browsed the M4L site and found some great shit!

http://www.maxforlive.com/library/devic ... p-cassette - emulates an old shitty tape deck, sounds awesomly lo-fi with hiss, pitch warble, big lowend hum and annoying pitched ringing!

http://www.maxforlive.com/library/device/3754/sa-drift - sweet and simple MIDI pitch modulation

http://www.maxforlive.com/library/devic ... rmant-step - formant step sequenced filter!

http://www.maxforlive.com/library/devic ... rd-control - handy control over MIDI keyboard parameters, especially useful /w Push

http://www.maxforlive.com/library/device/2567/lf8 - LFO can modulate up to 8 parameters, no need to wait for Live10!

http://www.maxforlive.com/library/devic ... parameters - modulate parameters based on incoming MIDI data

http://www.maxforlive.com/library/devic ... p-observer - this one's awesome, modulates up to 8 parameters based on the value/modulation of a given parameter ie. when the filter opens, you can modulate the resonance and noise oscillator up based on that etc.

http://www.maxforlive.com/library/devic ... speed-dial - must have for Push owners, replaces the useless master volume dial with a universally working controller knob

http://www.maxforlive.com/library/devic ... transposer - another nice one for push, allows easy transposing of the notes in a midi clip from Push

http://www.maxforlive.com/library/devic ... evstretchr - sweet freeze, stretching, reverse and transposing /w multiple layers

http://www.maxforlive.com/library/devic ... slow-audio - nice spectral based freeze effect

I love shaper. It’s basically the lfo effect but you can draw your own shapes.

I cry a little every day for not having m4l just because of lfo
