Hardware with ableton

Post by zukenbauer »

Ok guys, need a little help.. Been trying to connect tanzmaus to ableton for a couple of days but without success.

Anyway, i connected midi in from tanzmaus to midi out in my scarlet 6i6.

Master out from tanzmaus to line input 3/4 on my scarlet.

When i open scarlet mix control i can see signal coming in from tanzmaus but i just cant get it in ableton..

My prefferences in ableton:
Audio input:scarlet
Audio output: scarlet

Midi: input and output are both set to scarlet.

Midi ports: input: focusrite usb midi set to track and sync
Output:focusrite usb midi set to track only

So i create audio track, set audio from ext. In and set monitor in but i dont receive any signal?
Can anybody think of what is the problem?
I followed every guide i found, watched all videos on connecting hardware to ableton but cant find solution.
Maybe the problem is in my scarlet mix control routing?
Thanks in advance

I havent used Scarlett mix control yet, so I can't comment on that, but have you tried using External Instrument in Ableton?
"Midi to" should be your 6i6 and "Audio from" should be channel 3/4 in your case.

Here's a video that should help you out:

You want to after selecting external input on the audio channel, select the actual incoming channel in the drop down. If there are no mini meters showing audio, you might want to go in to abletons midi settings in prefs, and make sure audio inputs are active.

In the drop down there are only 1, 2 and 1/2 and no showing signal.

Midi settings are also showing only input 1, 2 and 1/2 and both are active.. Dont know why i dont see 3/4

So in the input config in the audio section of ableton preferences you are not seeing channels 3-6?

that does sound like it's not properly enabled somewhere.
I would look in the Scarlet mix control first,
because Live should normally always automatically recognize all the ins and out from your sound card.

Have you tried contacting the Focusrite people and ask them what the problem could be ?

but have you tried contacting their customer support.
Could be just a simple call to give you a direct answer.
Even if you bought this used or something, I doubt they'll ask you for a SN or something.

Solved it.
My driver type was set to MME/directx but it looks like it should be set to ASIO.

.
I'll gladly give you a hand in your cable training...

Here's some pics for you :

1. spot the MIDI cable from the balanced and unbalanced cables hanging there as well

Image

2. spot the 2 MIDI cables, if you can confirm me which one of them is broken, or if even both are broken, I'll buy a fristi !

Image

3. Where's the MIDI cable (actually 2 if you look real good) and is it (are they) broken or not ?

Thou shall be a MIDI ninja in no time ! 8-)
