So its time to buy something nice for myself and decided to go with drum machine instead of synth cus I just hate programming drums ITB..
Would you recommend it as being first ddrum machine?
I watched alot of videos and it seems like powerful machine, maybe a little bit complicated as first piece of hardware?
And can somebody explain me this elektron overbridge thing? I,mean I think I understand it but cant see reason why would one need it.
Thanks in advance

Yes, i can fully recommend the RYTM as your first drum machine. It was my first analog drum machine as well. Analog drums sounds are really nice on their own and you have lots of options to shape the sounds with Filters, LFO's. Velocity Mods and so on.
When you spice up the analog side with samples, this machine can really shine.

Of course it's not perfect in all areas but it's easy to learn and the scene and perf modes are perfect for playing live.

With Overbridge, you're able to stream all the drum tracks into your DAW and treat them individually which is perfect when you don't have a mixer or a soundcard with lots of inputs.

The RYTM to me was like a breath of fresh air when I got it. This box won't leave my studio (except for live gigs).

Thats the reply I was aiming for, thanks mate..
And coming from a guy which I asked before how did you make those drums :D

So I guess I missunderstood bridge,, I guess ill need one.

You're welcome mate. ;)

In fact, the RYTM is responsible for my decision to go live and quit traditional DJing. It's an expressive Instrument and I personally gelled with it very quickly. I have the opportunity to play a really nice festival next year and instead of just playing tracks, I try to improve my live skills with my OTB set-up.(which is the reason why I don't post that much here on subsekt at the moment)

I like it. I think Monoxid has pretty much covered what's good about it.

It's not perfect, though most of the things that are shit about it will be solved by the Mkii model if you can handle the eye-watering price.

Nice box, sold it after a while cause i though it was to analog in a way, I dunno it was to dominant in my mixes had to eq it to much for it to fit

Maybe i sold it too soon, maybe i didnt.

Using the digitakt now and its all i could ask for. simple, effective, flexible, small, great sounding.

Probably the best analogue drum machine out there bar the tempest perhaps.
I sold mine, for various reasons, but I would still recommend it.

Thanks guys.. unfortunately there is none here in Croatia and im too anxious about ordering one from juno or ebay.. I still have to contact one shop and see do they have it.
If not, maybe ill look into octatrack, seems pretty simillar and the store here has one.

I recommend it as a first drum machine too. When I started using one I didn't know much about music production and I found it really easy to get stuck in, learning through practicing and exploring what the box could do.

It's also the most straight-forward of the Elektron boxes I've tried (A4 & Octatrack). I wouldn't worry about it's complexity. It can go deep but it's not a challenge to make it sound good and for it to feel like you're playing it.

Octatrack is completely different to the Rytm. I'd be careful about going to a shop to try one without knowing how to use it, you'll probably end up hearing nothing. Not the most intuitive machine.

Cmon, it's only 1700 euros, according to Electron that price isn't even 'premium' enough to give you give "premium" (basic) Overbridge functionality without charging you extra for it

Personally given the choice I would go Octa over RYTM.
I prefer samples to analog drums, and the mangleability is pretty good, and less limitations than the digitwat.
But then if you are in that price range you could also go MPC Live which is far less limited than both those elektron devices.
Pretty much unlimited channels as opposed to only 8 on both electrons, and as much storage as you like for samples. I stuck a 500gb SSD in mine so I have access to most of my sample library. Much more internal fx and mixing capability too. And you get legacy modes so you can have your samples touched with the character of various old akai MPC devices and samplers.

Thanks, ill watch some videos of octa when I come from work. I think I sould be happier with analog rather then loading my own samples, which I dont have actually.. im working for 2.5 years with ableton stock samples

Well, no point getting an octatrack then.

Yeah, it's worth keeping an open mind about that. The analogue side sounds good, but I found it to be somewhat limited. Getting some of my own samples into the AR is what really made it come alive for me.

Did you realize there is a AR MK 2 coming up in October?
That's the reason why it's not available anywhere.

Thomann is shipping worldwide and has excellent service.
Elektron is shipping via UPS for free. Premium shipping.

Croatia is in the EU customs union I thought? Shouldn't have to pay anything extra to import music equipment if you buy from another EU country and you pay VAT as you buy the item...

Yes, I guess im not paying extra then. I have been always scared about those things since I did never ordered anything "big" from another country.. maybe its time :)

I didn't think these were all that versatile from listening to the demos, but I changed my mind since reading that interview with CTRLS which someone posted and listening to his tracks. He gets a lot of variety out of it.
