Been using TAL-Bassline but I've come to realise only having the one ADSR is really limiting

Wondering if there are any good freeware synths that produce classic subtractive bass tones out there?

i've got TyrellN6 that I plan to play with tonight. I own a copy of massive also that I might look into.

Cheers

ichiro toda's synth1 is great. Don't be fooled by the presets, with enough tweaking you'll get good basses.

If you use Live, for sub I like Operator, it's easy to dial in the exact kind of waveform you want and it has the great filtermodels from The Drop.

I'll second Operator for sub. Have also heard good things about Synth1 (mentioned above). I used to have it a long time ago, but didn't know enough to get much happening with it back then. Might get it again actually.

You could try Freealpha, not the most elaborate synth, the raw tone sounds pretty good to me though. Reacts really well to distortion/saturation.

There's also Kairatune, a bit more cpu intensive but great for pure bass tones, fucked up weird shit and anything in between. And if you can get a copy, Beatzille (magware version of Bazille) by Uhe is amazing, after half an hour with that thing I bought the full version. One of the few synths I really miss from my previous setup(that doesn't run on this machine), and it's the first thing I'll install as soon as I get my new system together.

I'll second the N6, it's one of the coolest sounding synths i've used. I used it a lot to make reeces when i made dnb, it gets such a grainy, dark sound really easily when you play with it down low. Though, nowadays i mostly use it for white noise & pads.

Did anyone ever try this?

It doesn't work on my pc no longer but I really liked it, ugly GUI with the damn logo but a very juno-esque sounding plugin. I made a few nice bass sounds on it but tended to opt to use it for chords as it has a chord function where you specify up to 5 intervals ontop of your root note. 3 Oscillators, 2 filters with a shaper, like diode etc and routing set ups along with a juno-ish chorus and mod section & LFO. The LFO was/is unable to be BPM synced but I really liked this thing, annoyed it no longer works on my pc ( Keeps crashing Live )

PG8X is a really nice freeware synth that make bass and lots of other interesting sounds.
If your 32bit or have JBridge/another Bridger I love sq80, not the simplest to use but can make some really nice bass patches.

I saw the dude updated PG8X the other day. I'll have to try it again - it used to crash my Live from what I remember.

DaHornet... takes a bit of tracking down, as it no longer supported but still works for me with a 32bit bridge. Excellent synth, Wasp emu.

Charlatan looks nice, never used it, came out after my freesynth times, i recommend the Skins on the last pages.
Mostly used Tal Noizmaker, Sonigen Modular and Tyrell
