Korg Minilogue a modern classic
Re: Korg Minilogue a modern classic
thats really a good priceKromasome wrote:Sorry to go off track on the mono/minilogue discussion. But I just went back to check on the price of the minilogue ($700 aus) and saw they have a special on BassStation 2 for $429 aus. I know they are completely different beasts, but I know the BS2 got some good reviews back in the day, and under $500 is almost in reach for me at the moment. Anyone got a BS2 - what are your thoughts?
its 629 euro here in europe
i think i will buy one directly from japan instead
Re: Korg Minilogue a modern classic
man, you'll probably end up paying whatever you saved on shipping and customs...
I really wouldn't do that if I were you.
If it was that easy, most people would start doing that.

It's not that I don't want to believe you,Lost to the Void wrote:Mark Doty (automatic gainsay) is hugely respected in production circles.
It was his video that explained the envelopes that led to me giving the monologue a second try as I had my doubts.
Super clever implementation of minimal envelope setup, compare with the shit of the microbrute, for example....
I rarely pine for a second envelope when using this, as it is really 2 envelopes controlled from one set of controls. I mean it works, the video explains it very well, keeping cost and size down I can't think of a better way of doing it and there are also some clever routings that help with different ways of working the envelope.
It really doesn't suck at all.
but I already hate the fact that my Juno 60 has to use the same envelope for filter and amp.
90% of the times, I don't give a single fuck about pitch envelopes (unless I'm programming drum sounds),
but I really, really want 2 different envelopes for my filter and amp.

Re: Korg Minilogue a modern classic
Well the J60 is a 61 key poly, so yeah I`d probably pine for the envelopes, especially for pads.
But the korg is a very small 25 key mono, so you aren`t really buying it for the same thing. Filter functionality is really useful. Like it shows in the video, it actually works really well, and a lot of thought has gone in to it, and I agree with the reasoning behind it, I haven`t as yet needed 2 envelopes (even though you do get 2 envelopes kinda).
I can only say to anyone questioning this, watch the videos I linked, it makes it all very clear.
I mean, if you want more, buy something with more of what you want no?
I DO care about pitch envelopes as I use this thing for really percussive chuggy detuned bass sounds.
I basically bought this thing to do the bass in my live PA. Which it does pretty much perfectly.
For price and features and sound quality there really isn`t anything that compares. If there was, I would have bought it. I tried everything out.
Obviously it`s not perfect, if any synth is, but the sound is really nice, and some of the other features are super interesting. I`ve been making some wonderful sounds with it, and I can`t wait to start gigging with it once the new live PA is sorted. It`s all over my recent album on Parabola Tape, and generally I don`t use much hardware (apart from fx) in my releases.

I definitely wouldn't, unless the saving is massive. Taxes, customs, potential electricity issues (I think Japan uses 100V and probably different kinda sockets), sending it back to Japan for possible repairs etc etc...bioniceye wrote: i think i will buy one directly from japan instead

Ok, valid point. But I have the same irritating feeling when I program my 101, which is a mono about the same size as the Korg Monologue, only a little bigger (32 keys versus 25).Lost to the Void wrote:Well the J60 is a 61 key poly, so yeah I`d probably pine for the envelopes, especially for pads.

Also, keys are of little importance to me. I play almost anything from my XV88.
I'm a hammer weighted addict, I just can't help it.
I watched the video's, I'm still not digging it.
Yes, indeed, that's probably what it comes down to.Lost to the Void wrote: I mean, if you want more, buy something with more of what you want no?
I am in no way saying this is not a great synth.
I've played around with it for about an hour, and really loved it,
but I'm saying the single envelope is something I'd get too frustrated with.
It's just personal taste.

I just bought a Ms-20 mini from Japan and saved 240 euros from the price in store here. It's easy picking up a converter for the connector on the power supply or buying a new 9v one.Barfunkel wrote:I definitely wouldn't, unless the saving is massive. you get ripped off too an extreme level.

True that They rip us a new asshole every time we go shoppingHades wrote:yeah, but you're in Iceland.

I would have saved a bit more if the customs hadn't decided to charge even more tax than I've usually paid, no idea why and I really just stopped caring and started photo shopping
If you live in Iceland always buy second hand so you can photo shop the receipt
Re: Korg Minilogue a modern classic
the savings are 200 euro between europe and japan for the minilogue
but youre right about the warranty

Buy local and buy used. Save money.
Thats what I did got mine for €500. I never buy synths new it pointless.

Really nice! Did you ever get around to uploading the links?Lost to the Void wrote: ↑Sat Jul 01, 2017 8:31 pmI'll upload the links later. There's a pack you can buy but my solution is much cheaper and yes, easy to fit. Unfortunately you can't change the program control knob without some modification. So I left mine.
(Didn't want to start a new thread.)
I'm getting this on Friday and it will be my first hardware synth. I've done some live arrangement stuff throughout the past year although just for fun in my living room with a controller in front of a webcam. I wanted this to add to the dynamic as well as having something to play with when I don't want to sit in front of my computer. I have a pretty solid understanding of synthesis growing up in the Propellerhead Reason environment (and still living there) but software is just very uninspiring. Kind of unrelated, but I watched I Dream of Wires the other day, and it dawned on me that software will never compare to hardware even with legitimate emulative sonic capability. Staring at a computer screen sucks even with this blue light reduction software. Music needs to be played and expressed with the human element - not programmed with a technical machine! Does anybody have input on how to get the most out of this synth? I don't have pedals but I've already been looking at some options. Really leaning towards Minilogue + Adventure Audio Outer Rings = recording raw and processing further in the DAW. I don't apologize if my post comes off as a bit manic.

Re: Korg Minilogue a modern classic
Are you going to learn to play keyboards and also try to play drum machines completely live by connecting to drum pads in an electronic drum kit?
How are you going to do all of that at the same time?
Multitrack recording?

I wish i had read that before. Just bought the MS20 mini

Bit of an asside, I`m doing a Singularity Recordings party in Brussels in November. Are you anywhere near that part of town?

and this year, my annual family weekend is already in august
so yeah, if in any way possible, I'll gladly come over, no prob.
Just let me know a little upfront about the exact date and normally I should be able to arrange shit.
Btw : I STILL have that circuit bent drum computer,
funny thing is, I've been saying for months now : just ask Steve for his address and bloody hell send it to him,
you can have it for free man. Only thing I ask is that if you get a chance, just record some samples and put them up here.
(we might still consider an XL pack for us and a standard model for over here, but honestly, it's you who gets to decide on that once you got it,
I know you don't like sharing your samples, and I totally get that, and this way it would be kind of a golden middle way)
It's been on sale here for like 1 year now, if not more, and I'm really in the process of cleaning up my studio in a big way (because it's been a BIG mess the last 2 months), just like I'm cleaning up in my life in general.
free seriously sick circuit bent drum computer, pretty sure you can't say no to that
