VOCAL PROCESSORS (TC HELICON, ROLAND, BOSS...)

Post by pupps »

Hello! I would like to ask you about Vocal Processors.

I am interesting in getting one since I like to play around with voice, like screams etc. on my industrial, dark techno-ish tracks. I usually record my vocals and process them on Ableton, adding effects, reverb, echos and EQ some times to experiment. As it is, it does the job but takes time on my workflow so I would like to get something that can do it directly, with a more polished, clean, and professional result. Ideally I am looking for something that I can also easily perform live with.

List of ideal features: pitch-correct, looper, doubler, harmony, reverb, delay, Midi input, output for guitar, and USB

Not really looking for a pedal system, cause I would prefer to be free to add a switch to it

After looking in the web, I found out that TC Helicon is a reference for vocal processing, and after watching some videos, I think that their products could fit my expectations but somehow they are always demonstrated by people that seem either being sponsored, or representing the company. So I am searching for real opinions and experience haha

My budget is up to 350 euros but I will surely not get it new.

Here are the ones I already spotted:

my fav pick for now:
TC HELICON VOICELIVE 2

also interested in:
TC HELICON PERFORM VK

TC HELICON HARMONY G-XT
https://www.thomann.de/gb/tchelicon_harmonyg_xt.htm

ROLAND AIRA VT-4
https://www.thomann.de/gb/roland_vt_4.htm

least into that one, but heard amazing things about it:
BOSS VE-20
https://www.thomann.de/gb/boss_ve20_vocal_performer.htm

Do you guys have any experience with any of these? Or what do you like to use and would recommend me ?

Thanks a lot xxx

I haven't used any of those so can't really comment, but they mostly seem to be harmony processors with some bells and whistles tacked on.

Are you using anything currently for harmony processing? There's a free VST called Midichoir that's actually quite good. There are some sound demo's on the page if you want to hear it.

I know that's not solving your problem of wanting an all-in-one box to do it for you, but usually with these boxes you find they might do one or two things quite well, but the other stuff is often lacking.

I don't use any harmony VST, I will try until I decide to purchase anything, thanks Ben!

But yeah, meanwhile, I really hope this topic will catch the attention of somebody that could advise me, because for the long run, I would need to invest in a physical processor.
