Chord Stabs Like This
Hey everyone. Been trying to make stabs like this, and am having a really hard time. Tried in operator, but am failing miserably. I was wondering if anyone knew what exactly this was? Thank you!
Chord comes in around 1:11-1:12.

Very helpful thank's for sharing that link

It's just a saw wave resampled, played on a lower octave and filtered. You can do this with literally any synth.

Just a minor 5th or minor 7th chord played on any synth really. Saw or saw-sine combo.
Or you can take a 3 osc synth and tune the oscillators to play a minor 5th (very common technique). Then whatever note you hit is a minor chord, instant stabby techno and house chords.

I fucking sit for hours playing sounds on C and F#, it's such an ominous sounding interval.Amøbe wrote:ooohhh that's the devil's intervalLost to the Void wrote:Just a minor 5th or minor 7th chord played on any synth really. Saw or saw-sine combo.

Not sure who they work for? but whoever they are they are the enemy of me and you.
probably the same entity that interrupted the coverage in Manchester to sell us their products.
I have a long list of people I would love to see die a slow painful death and they are all in the public eye but god is cruel, he only takes the ones I love.....Rik Mayall, Chris Cornell, etc.

Ugh.
Weirdly losing Rick and Chris were some of the most upsetting for me.
Both very influential to me in different ways.

Yeah totally, I grew up with his humour, filthy rich and catflap and the young ones when I was a kid, which became funnier when I revisited it at university.
And of course Bottom, which on the surface was just sort of slapstick, but the tragic Character of Richard Richard was great to look on in later life.
And Alan b'stard of The New Statesmen, well, still relevant.

I've modeled my life on Richard Richard, I never planned it to be that way but...hey ho.Lost to the Void wrote:Yeah totally, I grew up with his humour, filthy rich and catflap and the young ones when I was a kid, which became funnier when I revisited it at university.

Re: Chord Stabs Like This
I think everyone ends up with a little bit of Richard Richard in them.
Re: Chord Stabs Like This
Tritones are cool but there isn't any in that stab, it's a minor chord, A minor I think but on hearing alone, it's easy to be off by a half step or a whole step. Loads of ways to make them and there's enough in the thread on that already. Experimenting with voicings is worthwhile though.MattAltmanMusic wrote:Tri tones all the way. Also thank you for the help!
You can give them some weight by spreading things out a bit, eg: E, A, E, A, B, C, E . Not saying there's an added 9th in there but I can hear one, but that could just as easily be an audible harmonic of the 'E'. Either way, point was, it can sound fuller if you voice the stab a bit more interestingly than say A,C,E. I'd stay away from adding minor 7th notes for that kind of sound as they tend to add a 'nice polite' tone to the chord. 9ths tend to add a bit of meloncholy but when they are wrapped up in between a semitone interval in a chord cluster and not left open at the top, it feels different.
