What would you guys choose to go with octatrack + minibrute?

Post by Macca »

Hey guys

Just looking for opinions. Trying to start going down the hardware route and so far have the octatrack and minibrute. What would you guys recommend for a poly Synth to go alongside. I quite like my ambient techno stuff and was looking at either blofeld or minilogue.

Either that and save up and go for the A4.

What would you guys go for if yous had the choice?

Blofeld and Minilogue are both very good choices.
1 is analogue with some cool routing tricks, 1 is digital again, with some cool routing and mod tricks.
Deepmind 6 might also be a good option at that price point.
Go take a listen and see what fits your sound pallette needs.

You COULD get a Deepmind 12 for $680 USD if you follow this guy's advice: https://www.reddit.com/r/synthesizers/c ... y_for_680/

TL;DR , Ebay has 20% off musical instruments and you could get refurbished deepmind 12s for $680 which is relatively a good deal.

Deepmind actually looks pretty sweet.

Reckon I am going to go with the blofeld the now as it seems to be highly capable of creating some nice soundscape/ambient like sounds which I am looking to create.
What do you guys think of the blofeld sound? The only thing stopping me from getting the blofeld is that its digital and I already have a few VST/Plugin synths and I feel they could be similar in terms of sound?

Blofeld has a great sound. Out of the 2 I would personally choose the minilogue (actually I did and have one)
But you can`t go wrong with the blofeld, it can sound very warm and you can make some quite complex pads and stuff

Blofeld is so nice and small, love those little powerful desktops.

Haven't heard the minilogue yet. Demos look great. Blofeld ist great, too, that's a synth you can use in nearly every style. Very flexible and versatile. A second-hand virus might be an option, too. I have the Virus B here and use it in every track. The Virus seems to be a bit darker than blofeld. There are a lot of trance demos of it out there, that suggest the virus is only for goa and psystuff, but far wrong, it can do even dry and dirty stuff with all that saturation, distorion and unisono mode.. Warm Pads and wide sounds are easy on a Virus. In the end it's a matter of choice, all are great machines.

Thanks guys.

Love the look of the access b. Looks like a nice little Synth too. Think the blofeld price tag / sound / versatility is really doing it for me though.

Since the blofeld and minibrute don't have midi thru. What would be the best way to set these up with the octatrack? Would I need to a midi hub to control both?

I'd be all over a desktop version.

It's really not very big. I Questioned getting the minilogue as my hardware is mostly for live. But the form factor isn't much bigger than a desktop. It's about the size of a minibrute.

Hmm cool, for everything poly related I'm set with omnisphere right now though.

Really need to get my gear thingy under control, it's not as bad as it used to be. I guess thats the thing with new things, after a while you realize you're over-doing it and then you finally reach some sort of balance 8-)

I was also considering just getting omnisphere, the modulating cabilities just seems fucking endless, and it sounds pretty amazing (plus the endless amounts of sampls) but I really much prefer turning knobs to clicking stuff.

I like the idea of whapping something out live into the octatrack, then exporting each track into ableton for mixing/adjustments.

Yeah each to its own i guess, I've got a push2 so everything is more less otb experience for me.

Though i do use quite some hardware i never see it replacing what i do in omni any time soon.

I also have the maschine sitting here. I was wondering if any of yous know how to map it so it can control a vst? I remember when I had an akai controller it was as easy as midi learn then click the parameters.

Was it the minilogue that had some clicking issue? (Is that fixed?)

Yeah the envelope speed was insane and caused clicking (common with analog though it was pronounced on the mlogue). But yeah it got sorted with a firmware update.
I waited and didn't buy one until problem was fixed.

Oh I didn't know that - I might save up for one then :)

(rookie question - if you don't own any synths digital or hardware - which I don't care for one way or another - would that be a good way to use your money? I've also been looking at the U-he soft synths)
