All of it.

I like and use soft and hardware.
I think lots of people just want to posses a thing - no matter if they have a real use for it. Just for showing off.
Like cars, houses and stuff. These people would pay any price. It's not "hip" to use software - no matter how the workflow and the results are. It seems to be "bad" to use a decent reverb plugin - no, you need to use a Strymon Big Sky. Beyond silly.

That said I do have gear lust for the OB6 and Meris Merxury 7 reverb.

The 303 (and other x0x boxes) has been over priced for a long long time. However I think that this relates its uniqueness. A 303 is much more of an instrument than more modern synths as it is a pretty basic design whose character is brought out by the way it is played (sequenced). To get an original of any classic instrument (especially an antique) costs, which is why you get clones and copies.Lost to the Void wrote:My god yes.
The 303, 909 and 808 are ridiculously overpriced for what you get for sure.
I have a real love/hate relationship with the 303. It is such a cliche, however there are times when a good acid line just works brilliantly.

Not many hw synths I lust after, but a Virus TI2 is one of them. I'll never buy one, though.

They really hold their value well don't they?Planar wrote:Not many hw synths I lust after, but a Virus TI2 is one of them. I'll never buy one, though.
I've considered getting one so many times but even used they just seem way overvalued.

The desktop is more reasonably priced: $2 vs $3k for the version with a 3 octave keyboard.
Re: Overrated and overpriced gear
Yes to all of the above, with the exception of Behringer and a few others but you get what you pay for in some cases.Huck Farper wrote:All of it.

Despite that I still blow my money on hardware, why...because it's fun..
