Anyone here using the native UAD Spark package or other UAD plugins?

Post by Barfunkel »

I downloaded the 2 week trial a few days ago, installed most of the plugins in the pack and I have to say, initial reaction is extremely positive! Basically everything sounds a bit or even a lot better than what I had before for the job. They are very old school in the sense that they mostly haven't added any modern features to their emulations, they are just very good sounding emulations of old gear.

I can imagine these being game changers for people who make more traditional music styles, as it's really easy to dial up classic tones in them. But this is mostly a techno forum, which sometimes require more precision and more controls. Nothing is of course stopping anyone of using both these and those precision tools by other manufacturers, which is exactly what I want to do.

So I wonder if anyone here is using these, what for and do you like them more than something else? And any nice tips for any of the Spark plugins would surely be welcome!

It's 20€ a month or 140€ for the whole year. Many hate the subscription model, but atm it suits me more than shelling 500€ or such at once.

I use some of the UAD effects - they are good but I am using more native now days. For instance MJUC is excellent and 24 Euros, some of the UAD compressors are 327 Euros when not on sale which I find a huge amount more. I do use the Studer and Ampex plugins quite a lot and the Fatso and Thermionic Culture Vulture, mainly because I have them and haven't heard anything I like as much, plus the EMT-140 Plate and also the tape echo emulations. I also have Oxford Inflator (which is available as native plugin anyway) but I should have really bought the VST. I have a bunch more that I bought on various sales and offers and things.

If I was doing it again and hadn't bought a UAD audio interface I would just use native.

I'm currently subscriped to Spark. My favs are the API Vision, 1073, 224, Pultec. The synths also sound really good. Love the PolyMax.

Now that they're offering them separately, I might just buy the ones I like the most one by one when they're on sale. But I don't think the sub is a bad deal, especially since they're going to keep adding 1-2 plugins a month.

Yeah the Polymax is nice! Not that deep, coming from power using Serum for a few years now, but definitely sounds quite nice and is easy to program your own sounds from scratch. Still haven't downloaded their wavetable synths, though it did sound nice on youtube as well.
