I got mine for around 5 years now and never had any issues with rattling. They are just amazing headphones

I'm happy with my yamaha hph-mt8 headphone. They give me a good bass respond, something i'm missing from my HS7's monitors. I also like the highs. The only thing that could be better is the mids. When I just got the headphone I found the mids a bit to harsh for my taste. This made me lower the volume ,for say a vocal, and than having to turn it back up when I hear it through my HS7's.

Anyway, just like any pair of monitor speakers you have to get used to your headphones to. I'm really in to my hph-mt8 now. I know them and know how they react. They have good sound and are really comfortable and have a good build.

I could also recommend the AKG K-702. I wanted to own one, but for my purposes a closed back was the right fit.

Thanks for the input. I'm 100% sure I haven't damaged anything, I've been using them with no issues. It's just during the most bass heavy tracks, quite a way above comfortable long-term listening volume that I get a little purr on kicks and wompy bass, and the only reason I have to push the volume is to provoke a symptom of possible bad build quality. Anything less and the lows sound clear and solid to me.

Wanna try my luck getting an unshakable pair but I've been emailing the company and tweeting at them and stuff with absolutely no response.

Vietnam ¯\_(ツ)_/¯.

Very accurate, translate extremely well to real world.

My headphones (DT770) just broke (and I don't own a soldering iron) and as I've been looking for a new/alternative pair anyway and the K701's seem good. 2 questions, however:

1) How is the sub bass on them? The DT770's produce low bass yes, the problem is that it sounds too nice on them and even huge amounts of extra sub bass doesn't sound like a mixing mistake, it just sounds nice and bassy and when you listen them on any half-decent speakers you immediately want to turn the subs down many many dB

2) How brutally honest are they? I think the 770's smoothen the music a bit and often when I A/B my own track with some smooth house track they sound similar on the headphones but somewhere else my track sounds harsh. I want headphones that would be really brutally revealing, almost to the point that listening music is not fun and feel more like a job where you're supposed to spot mixing mistakes.

i have AKG702 for making tunes, and Sennheiser HD 25 for djing. the sennheiser are about 15 years old, all i have had to do is replace the earpad bits as they were worn down. still sound great, work great, no connection issues.
AKGs i bought were busted from day 1, there was a loose connection which meant that i had to give it a wiggle to get one side to work, but i bought them from Amazon and their warranty/return process was excellent. replacement pair i got are great, it was obviously just bad luck to get a bogus pair.

I've just bought a set of 702's. I've already got the 240's and I've been using them more and more lately. I'm much happier with the results using headphones now. I'm considering ditching my monitors altogether.

Bought some K701's six months ago. Now that they "burned in" properly I'm getting used to them more and more. They slowly replace my beloved DT 909's.

1. What you are telling is basically the definition of a bad studio headphone.

2. They are very honest but when you are used working with bass pumping hifi headphones, you will need to get used to the 'missing' lows. I'm very happy with my K701 and the price it cost's; it sure was a good tip from Steve.

Depending on what was driving them before you could well notice the low end becomes much tighter and snappier.
Judging compression should get easier.

Do you guys reckon it would be worth it to get a pair of AKGs when I already have a pair of Sennheiser HD650s? I could probably sell them second hand and even make a bit of profit when buying the AKGs. But I've had these for over 7 years so I almost feel a bit attached to them by now :) I tried the AKGs in store once and liked them though. I even thought about just keeping both but that feels a bit over the top.

i used the 702's for the first time last night. i have to say there is a big difference between those and the 240's. i was A/Bing them and it was very obvious. 702's are very flat in comparison, quieter less fatiguing and more comfortable to wear. i was always under the impression the the 240' were a good standard of headphone. good value etc but im so glad if got the 702's now, they are a clear step up.

Hi Steve, are your 701s made in China? Sorry if you mentioned already.

Think I've read that they're made in Europe and/or China. Guessing the euro ones are better.

They used to be assembled in Austria as far as i can tell. But now they are assembled in china. The components have most like always come from china.

Same as elektron. Made in sweden.. But components will be coming from china. Everything is made in china these days.

Got my Headbox S amp today. I have a cold right now so probably not the best time to be critically listening to things. Will respond fully in future.

However, one thing I've noticed, playing back this track:

youtu.be/TBgztBW01jg

The bass is reproduced much much muuuuuuch better on the Headbox amp at volume. On the 2i4 built in amp the bass starts to distort real quickly as volume is introduced. The headbox handles it fine.

Looking forward to putting more music through it. They are powering my K702 :)

If you value your hearing, don't...
