Making music late at night..

Post by Críoch »

Honest to fuck.. making music at night on headphones, when you are wrecked tired is like being on some kind of mind altering substance

I was making a loop around 0100 / 0200 & I was REALLY tired - but I just couldnt bring myself to go to bed though.

After a while - I couldnt work out why the kick/bass sounded like they were going out of time, gradually after around 24 bars. I just thought it was cos I was tired & my ears were picking out a particular sound & exaggerating it. Sometimes when I'm working on getting the sounds I wanna use (especially on H'phones) it can get so confusing after a while. Suppose its fatigue.

But anyway - it turns out this moring that the audio bounces that I was using for the Bass, was not a perfect loop lol. What a fool. I was too tired to work it out

Woke up this morning.. realised it. It was subconciously ticking away in my mind during the night.

When you are tired - you should just go to fkn bed! I listened to the loop again & it sounded decent - so a fresh perspective is good too :)

Im with ya on this one sir, its so hard to just stop and let it lie for a bit, then the night rolls into the morning and ya end up loosing days cause your body clock is fooked. When my girls are getting up for school i know its time for bed, I find trying to design a bit of cover art for half an hour after im done messing up my track helps me wind down.
Glad it sounded good for ya the next day m8 :)

Yeah man.. I heard ages ago that the blue light from computer screens / tv / phones tricks the brain into thinking its day time.. Basically getting you revved up when you should be winding down.

So deffo - doing a bit of non - electronic shit before bed is a good idea. Know what you mean about going to bed when they're getting up haha. Sometimes my little fella gets up in the middle of the night - or my missus comes into the room & it scares the fuck out of me hahaha

It was a long time ago since I stopped making music at nights :)

When I decided my music should be more then a hobby project I had to learn how to change my routines when it comes to producing. I make most my stuff kinda like on a 08.00 - 16.00 basis actually. The best period for music in early mornings for me, fresh ears and stuffed with coffee, before checking through all emails and other boring administrative stuff.
