In an ideal world I'd keep to as few channels as possible and make what was on those channels as interesting as possible. I tend to get carried away though.

i heard Flying Lotus uses like 70 or 80 channels... probably why i find his music so annoying...

so my latest effort has:

1 kick
2 snares
2 HiHats Closed
1 HiHat Open
1 Shaker
1 Tom
1 Tambourine (don't laugh)
1 Conga
1 SideChain
1 Lead
1 Lead Accent
2 Synths
1 Reversed Synth
1 Vocal
1 Riser

also returns...

1 short reverb
1 long reverb
1 NY compression
1 filter delay

I'll probably add a crash, maybe another riser variation... Hell, i'll keep adding till my music is annoying. In fact, i'll probably go so far as to remove any association with the term 'music'. So don't take my advice.

Current track has 25 channels on it

1. Trigger for sidechaining
2. Bass Group/Bus
3. Bass
4. Sub Bass
5. Drum Group/Bus
6. Kick
7. Clap
8. Snare
9. Hats
10. Shakers
11. Bip
12. Chopped Loop
13. Porc Loop
14. Wash Loop
15. Vox
16. Buzz Hit (tho this is likely to get dropped)
17. Strings
18. Synth Group/Bus
19. Riff
20. Lead 1/Chords
21. Lead 2 Chords Big
22. FX
23. FX2
24. FX3
25. Reference Track (for the arrangement)

But then this is ProgNo - apparently that's a "new" genre or so Beatport told me. A mix of Tech House and Prog House, I guess. ;)

i recently downloaded ableton live packs. if you on Live, try them, there's some pretty good insight into the topic.
