How do I get a nice cymbal ride like the one attached? Im guessing its pretty simple but my attempts are just giving brutal sounds..

I'd say you wanna get your ride on 16th notes Declan

r is low or medium volume.
_ is just a space.
R is normal volume.

r_R_r_R_r_R_r_R_

After you do that, add a bit of reverb to it as an insert and set it 40% wet and sidechain the whole thing to the kick. From there you can start lowering the wet amount to get it sittin where you think is right.

another good thing to try when adding a ride to your track is play around with the attack of the side chain if you open it just a little (.5 secs) you can keep the bite/attack so it still punches through the mix. Sometimes it works others it can overwhelm your kick or worse yet the rest of your track.
