Hepta has a tempest for sale.
Not sure which one I'd get. Probably an elektron as im a bit of a fanboy and they have a more forward way of thinking that dsi.

Tempest has a more in-depth synthesis capability, longer sequences and is overall more "suitable" for live performances, however it's sampling capability is zero. Your stuck with the built in samples and the only chance to get new ones is if dave & roger decides to update the OS.
Rytm has dedicated machines and parameter locks for anyone familiar with their other hardware, You can upload your own samples, but the sampling is nowhere near as good as the octatrack, its just for simple playback and layering but at least it's there.
They are not better than each other they are just very different, it's a matter of workflow.

Tempest overall more "suitable" for live performances?? That sounds interesting..
Re: would you buy a Tempest or an Analog Rytm? WHY?
Yeah. But it kinda depends on how you perform though. The pads on the Tempest are much better and more responsive than on the Rytm. But if you just run a sequence then there is probably not much of a difference.

Also all the controls are more hands on, and you got the two FX sliders that you can assign to almost every parameter. You could compare this to the 'Performance Mode' on the rytm but its not as intuitive or expressive because of the pads hehe...
My personal opinion is that I like the sound and the sequencer more on the Rytm. But the possibilities of sonic sound design is much better on the Tempest (without mentioning the limitations of samples).

Seems that the pads on the rytm need some healthy bashing, over time they get more responsive (so i have read).
Both machines have their pro's and con's i suppose. As a freshly owner of a rytm, i am a bit biased. So far i love the machine. Specially with overbridge....makes it so easy to make the rytm part of your studio setup.

I didn't really gel with the Tempest, feel its better as a 6voice polly than a drum machine.
Maybe because i had already invested quite some time into my workflow with the MD & A4, the Tempest didn't feel all that intuitive to me wile the Electron stuff was just clicking.
So if i was to pick, it would have to be the RYTM. Think it sounds better as well.

I was watching videos on these two units yesterday. I would have to go with Elektron. Im digging the user videos and its allot less expensive here than the tempest. I like the layout of the interface from what Ive seen plus the bridge option. They both can sound pretty killer but its not the instrument really its the programmer. I think the Duo Karenn use the Tempest for there live set.

I really wanted a tempest, got to try one for 2 weeks.
It`s great, but not great enough in comparison with the RTM to warrant dealing with it`s foibles.
Still debating if I should get an Analog 4 or RTM for my live rig.

If im not mistaken I did see a video with the Analog 4 and it was playing some kind of percussion/drums.... Im not sure If you can load any samples into it.Lost to the Void wrote:I really wanted a tempest, got to try one for 2 weeks.

Hands down RYTM. I've not played with either, but if the RYTM is anything at all like MD then it's a very creative tool. I've almost pulled the trigger and bought one. But I keep talking myself out of it because I don't think I really need it.

I`m leaning more towards and analog 4 or monomachine still.Markus Wolf wrote:If im not mistaken I did see a video with the Analog 4 and it was playing some kind of percussion/drums.... I have an Octatrack so I don`t really need synth drums.

I want a RYTM. From everything I have read and seen it is much more difficult to get the immediate results I want with the Tempest, which are strong analog drums. I would take a Tempest if someone gave it to me, lol.

And I would most likely buy a Tempest at some point, because I love gear...But my heart is set on a RYTM.

I fucking love the Tempest sound but the entire workflow is unintuitive as hell.
Rythm for quick (and good) results. Tempest if you have a lot of spare time.

You have to systematically create confusion, it sets creativity free. Everything that is contradictory creates life.

Really? Their whole pre-launch proposal was that it was the best workflow since the MPC (I'm hyperbolizing, but still).Lag wrote:I fucking love the Tempest sound but the entire workflow is unintuitive as hell.
