Choir Sound / Pad

Post by over9000 »

Hi

i would love to create a Choir like Sound or Pad kinda like in this Queens of the Stoneage song
the coir comes in in the last part of the song
youtu.be/DcHKOC64KnE

but with a poly synth

normally i just mess around with synths until something cool comes out and then process is endlessly
but if i want to create a specific sound, i struggle with the synths

any pointers on how to create a choir like pad sound? Or atleast where to start?

My guess would be some Saw waves, envelope with sustain, a chorus/delay and some panning would definitely help

I don`t hear a choir sound in this.
Are you talking about the endlessly sustained guitar?

I mean the backing vocals starting at 2:48
Now listening back to it its really vocals so it might be difficult to synthesize them, but i would appreciate a pointer to achieve a somewhat similar sound with a synth and or processing technique.

That's one of my favourite albums!

I also don't hear any choir synths, but sometimes when I do FM with ratios that are a mixture of very much straight on overtones in the modulators, and some more atonal (either fixed or tuned in between), I sort of discover a human voice in the synthesis. It's always extremely narrow sweetspots, and the modulations are never very deep - I also forget to save them, so I can't give you any exact settings.

The process is however quite fun - it's almost like a shock, because it goes from sounding 80s to eerie human :D

Few years ago i watched a stream or read about one track. Guy used something like google text-to-speech, after sliced the result, pitched it manually and auto-tuned it.

Yeah, track is pretty cheesy, but the technique is interesting.
