Techno Music Production Resources (Add them here)
Re: Techno Music Production Resources (Add them here)
This channel dedicated to pedal demonstrations has been the most inspiring find for me in a while even though I am a hopeless dreamer. This recommendation comes with a disclaimer removing me from being responsible for you ending up in a madhouse.

Don't know if this has been posted before (can't find it in search) but I just stumbled across Steve Angstrom's set of Ableton tutorials.
https://angstromnoises.com/category/tutorials/
Some really good stuff in there, I particularly enjoyed the series on creative use of feedback.

cool, i was actually thinking of opening a topic asking for something similar.Ben Kohonays wrote: ↑Tue Dec 04, 2018 6:04 amUsing FM synthesis to create metallic sounds.

however, after watching the vid i'm more looking for bleepy sounds rather than these 'real' sounds.

Yeah, I could have done with the examples being a little shorter, but the diagrams are cool.intrusav wrote: ↑Tue Dec 04, 2018 6:37 pmI like how that's put together ..Ben Kohonays wrote: ↑Tue Dec 04, 2018 6:04 amUsing FM synthesis to create metallic sounds.

And this one is quite intriguing as well

I was considering getting preen at some point, but I got Digitone instead and after watching this one, I'm meh, I should probably go opposite direction and one of those old school ones, they sound quite "creamy"

It is not really about the polyrhythms that I bring up this video. After all, I recently read on this very forum, pinnacle of techno wisdom, that polyrhythms are out of fashion.
Anyway, I stumbled on one of this guy's lessons a while ago, and find him a very good teacher. He can explain musical concepts to the uninitiated in a very clear manner.

Hello,
Some times ago I wrote a script to download a bunch of bird songs from this page : http://www.azfo.org/SoundLibrary/sounds_tax.html because I like bird songs
I'm not sure at which extend one can use mp3 file on a serious mix, however if you're interested I could set up a Drop box link when I get a descent internet connexion. Just let me know if you want to get them all in one (you can get individual sounds from the page already).
Did not use them a lot, only for small ambiance effects, but I'm curious to see what ppl can make out of it.
PS : Those files are copyrighted 'see directly on the page'

Beethoven's music is full of bird songs (and other environmental melodies/rhythms), he was a human sampler/field recorder. His fifth symphony's opening motif is an evergreen amongst our feathered friends.
I remember using a bird recording in a track a few times, I also did some conversions to midi at a time, interesting...

Not sure if this is the right place to put this but just came across it randomly at the ableton forum.
It’s for a ‘Magic Send’ to allow the channel send to act like a dry wet control...

Reckon I’ll have a go with that later.Put a Utility set to phase invert on the "A Return" track.
Put an effect (100% wet) on "B Return" (try a ping pong delay to get a feel for it)
On the A Return track turn up Send B to maximum and set the gain to 0db
Make sure that both sends are set to post
You can now use send A on any track to xfade between 100% dry and 100% effect. great for dub delays where you want to drop out the original sound but still here the delayed version - for example.
Send B will bring in the effect in the normal way.
You can set up several effects in this way to create a kind of dub pallette, and spontaneously apply any combination of effects to any track (ok, this is obvious ), shifting the whole mix from 100% dry to 100% effects just by tweeaking a few sends
Arguably the 180 degree phase shift might affect the sound of the dry/wet mix with some effects, but another phase inverter placed before the effect would fix it. In practice it doesn't appear to make much of a difference with most effects.

Interesting read, makes some good points. Most of it common sense.
Have downloaded the kicks ages ago but just forgot about them

Thanks, that was interesting indeed! What was new to me, was the bit about sample players. Coincidently I opened a really old track in Ableton, and was surprised to find the Impulse drum device. That was a really long time ago I had seen that, and immediately I remember liking that over drum racks. I rarely use drum racks, instead having everything in its own track using Simpler. I'll try and see if using Impulse over Simpler makes a difference.
here is a blank Impulse for Ableton users that don't have access anymore or have never heard of it before.

Yeah, definitely gonna try that. Wonder if there’s a way of testing other than just by ear?borg wrote: ↑Wed Apr 14, 2021 6:22 pmThanks, that was interesting indeed!
