Beefier kick and less high-mids, but no real attempt to mix it.

now a couple of typical progressive build-ups, a semi-philosophical female vocal part, and you're all done.
nice work

probably went a lot easier than your DnB sort of stuff. :)

To be fair I don't think I've ever posted anything up so "still making stuff" was a bit presumptuous ;)

I think I love fiddling with the technology/trying to find the "perfect setup" too much, e.g. instead of making stuff last weekend I was hacking Push so it will play previews of samples when browsing... need to stop f***ing around and actually use what I've got ;)

people shouldn't be judged on just their musical output you know. ;)
Sometimes they can still have a lot of useful things to say even if they haven't gotten tons of finished tracks.
And if for example only people with proper musical output would be allowed to buy gear, we'd never find barely used proper gear for a decent price on ebay,
hell, even the prices of our new gear would be 3x as much since the market would so much smaller.

I'm guessing from Ashley's disappearance from subsekt that real life just got in the way too much,
as it can and will do for many of us, so he's cutting down on music (or at least subsekt chat) in favour of spending time with his kids.
(his mrs is probably hitting the wip behind his back as soon as he turns on subsekt :D ;) )

I mean, for example in my case I'm looking at a great studio but not enough time to make tracks,
and on the other hand tons of unfinished stuff and a huge clip library.
Most of the times production wise to me it feels like I'm taking 1 step forward and 3 steps back, and it's depressing me when I think about it.
But yeah, real life gets in the way, constantly.
It's a pain in the ass, but my kids are only young once.
No 100 tracks will make up for having been there when they first learned how to ride a bicycle.

I have a colleague at work who's writing a historic novel.
Tons of work, and she literally told me she's been wanting to do it for years,
but she said she knew she could only do it once her kids were older and out of the house or she just wouldn't have the time.

Hearing how Cio D'Or is already 60 gave me some small hope. haha.
Then I can still have quite some years before it gets too late to have any proper creative output to show for. :)

You're telling me. I bust my arse off for those tracks and then everyone likes a 20 minute muck around. May as well finish it now, it won't take long.

Making stuff and posting it up are 2 different things. I'd figured as you'd not been around much that you'd given up. I'm sure you've stuck up a few loops and synth experiments anyway.

I miss the Borg. It's a poorer place without him.

Bass needs work. The bass wasn't in my face enough.

Seriously though it's really promising. like a mix between bass music, hardcore and techno. But the kick needs to carry the track, and atm it doesn't kick enough. Low end sounds too muddy to me.

In fact the highs need some work too.

But, the technicalities aside. It has a real great feel.

I really like it, but generally agree with Jordan about the kick from what I can tell on these headphones. The bass thing at around 1.17 sounds fantastic to me- more of that kind of thing would be great.

Any final comments on this then, before I spend 10 minutes mixing it?

Not really sure what to do with it, tbh. I might just make it a downloadable track for a little while on my SC.

.

we gotta spend almost 7 full minutes listening to it and you're gonna spend only 10 minutes mixing the thing.

the nerve ! :D

I spent 3 hours this afternoon trying to make a finished mix of one of my tracks, and I'm still only halfway
(I hate trying to do something properly in the studio and getting disturbed like 50x by my kids and the mrs...),
and here you go saying you can do the job in 10 minnutes.
you're a cunt.
hell, you don't even deserve to be called "cunt".
you vagina !

ps more build ups, and get some crash cymbals or FX to go with the build ups and break downs

This isn't my usual pace. I usually spend weeks on tracks, but this one is a quick and dirty palate cleanser before I get back to 170.

I'll see if I can add some noises to signify the transitions.

Thanks Jordan and Planar - appreciate the feedback. Definitely agree that the kick needs some more subbiness and power.

Actually Planar that would be the one suggestion I would have with your track as well. Sounds like it has the makings of a great dark and moody prog/techno track, and I love the digital sounding bass, but I think the bass line has a little too much sub and the kick could use some more. Just my thoughts at least.

Cheers Dean. I'm actually a but puzzled as there was a fairly aggressive HPF on the bass to let the kick through and an envelope on the low end faking a side-chain. My own opinion is that it lacks bass all round, but I've had enough of it. I've made the filter frequency a bit higher anyway, added a few things based on your and Hades feedback. I'm calling it done and posting it in the members tracks section to be torn apart by that crowd.

nice

first time I listened I thought : too monotonous
then I turned it up a bit and listened further down the track
geat atmosphere, but it needs something more to keep it interesting though.
a proper lead maybe, drop in a hard monotonic kick after a while ?
it needs more drive/groove to accompany the atmosphere.
You got the atmosphere covered perfectly though

I think its a really good starting point anyway, great atmosphere, just needs driving percussion and some kind of a hook.
