is this some subtle way of yours to say you were a total cunt, wasting all of our precious time,
and, well, to cut to the chase... you were wrong right from the start ?? :D :D ;)

If you continue like that,
we might ask for some form of serious compensation,
like kangaroo burgers for all of us here,
and 17 boomerangs for all of Jordan's offspring.*

*You get extra points if you can smuggle in some Aboriginal servants.
I got the faint impression my mrs is cutting corners lately...

anyway, only on headphones.
my power conditioner once again refused to start up (it's been only 5 or 6 weeks since I had it repaired),
so the studio is down.

I find this a hard one to comment on.
I don't want to say much about the clarity of your elements separately because I don't trust my headphones enough for that.
In general, right now the track sounds like it needs a lot more variation.
The lead part/riff just goes on almost unchanged for pretty much the whole track. (almost 4 minutes).

I really liked both the intro and the outro !!

I like the groove but was waiting for some kind of hook element or something in the low mids,,
but it works also like this, tool track.
Mix sounds ok to me,, somehow empty but maybe cus i was waiting 1 more element

hey, laugh with it all you want...
I didn't break anything,
all I did was switch off my whole studio since I was gone all weekend.
I almost never do this, but I figure it's gotta be done once in a while just to expand the life of my monitors and MBP,
who are always left on if I don't turn everything off.
By turning off shit, I had the following happen in the last 4 years :
3x monitor not turning on again.
2x power conditioner not turning on again.

Never had that shit fail on me while it remained turned on.

It's pretty stupid, it would make you think "fuck switching off that shit",
but yeah, it can't be healthy as well to leave that stuff turned on all the time either... :|

it's actually quite typical that normally you get a 5 year warranty with this power conditioner,
and it started failing on me only 2 or 3 months after those 5 years had passed...

something more housier

So a lot has been said about this track already. First of all I like the overall mood of the track :) it sounds like some old computer game, which you just re-discovered and get all nostalgic about!

One thing I would suggest is to see, what happens, if you pitch the melody, which comes in around the 4 minute mark, up an octave. I think it could open up a frequential space that you don't utilize at the moment (I do not like my wordings in this sentence...).

But yeah swing it, do something with the pad and grit it good, then I think you will have a very nice track :)

Ok, since my last post, the track has evolved into this.

I'm aware of some mix issues, the low end needs tightening up. I'll side-chain the low of the bass. and eq it better. and I'll eq the kick better, perhaps compress it.

the arrangement to the break also needs working on. I'll have flashes of the organ before the break as well.

The percs need to be louder in the mix.

Any thoughts? The second half has to be arranged yet.

That second part is really lovely, but I think the break back the groove could benefit from going in another direction. Maybe "swarm it up" with some delay sends or something, so that it gets thicker. I think you master minimalism very well, so a step in the other direction could really take me places - and then cut back to bad ass groove!

Erm... this might sound a bit harsh, but I would get rid of a lot of the elements in that track! When it's just the sound of the kick drum and what sounds like a dinosaur being surprised by a burp in the middle of a growl, it is fucking awesome! But it's a quite noisy sound, and especially the hats and snares doesn't do it any good by sounding like white noise bursts... so I would go for something more metallic and with a bit more defined sound. It's not the arrangement there's anything wrong with, but it sound a bit like your sounds are fighting each other.

But work on it, because it's a cool groove :)

ah, no expensive gear is broken (afaik),
and if I want to, I just gotta fetch the box with power cables from my attic and hook up my mixer, monitors and sound card directly to the power strips or sockets in the wall, and I'm up and running again.
Problem is that this box is somewhere hidden behind lots of boxes stuffed with children clothes, and it's right next to the stairway hole somewhere, so I'm literally risking serious injury if I really want to find it back before my mrs cleaned up some of that shit surrounding my old cables and empty gear boxes (I only kept some of them in case I have to send something back for repair).
As you can tell, I'm living the life of a true techno warrior... :)

I'm actually more concerned about my repair guy. He fixed my power conditioner last time, and I had the impression looking at him when I was picking up my unit that he suffered a stroke fairly recently (half of his face seemed to be hanging down a bit and lacking emotion), and he generally seemed a bit confused.
I got to know this guy because he mainly repairs and sells vintage hifi,
but having a good repair guy that doesn't live hours away is pure gold when you start having some serious HW...
And I'm not trying to sound selfish, but I would seriously hate it when something happens to him...

I just ordered another one today.
It's half the price of this one, and since I didn't need half of the extra tralala that was on this one anyway,
I should be more than fine with this one. With a 3 year warranty from Music Store I'm not risking anything anyway.
I can then still decide if I want the old one repaired or not.
It's a sad thing to watch commercial trickery like that happen, but what can you do ? :|

There are many worse things in life...

actually, I had a similar feeling...
like I said, the intro and outro sound great.
Maybe you can try to start over again with just those elements ?

umm, as said, just on headphones (compared 2 pairs though), but my main headphones usually give a lot of low end,
and I'm not really hearing too much low end tbh (or is it supposed to be like that ?)
as in not hearing "an overdone low end", I think it sounds pretty much fine now.

there's not much I can say about this, it's just a drum clip.
I think your woodblocks are too far in the back of the mix because there's too much reverb on them.
Both on the first 2 notes and the other 2 or 3 notes that are far more at the back.

I wanted to make nice, solid low end with nice sub in the kick.. Thanks, actually i just wanted somebody to tell me that its not missing anything in the lows and that i did not overdid it.
Woodblock are supposed to be wet and in the background but maybe i can dial it little bit back.
Thanks, appreciate it.

yeah i cant really say much about this
i think you got a good basic to make a track out of it
mayb the woodblocks are too wet but it really depends what you will add
bass sounds good

the lead is a little bit much its there the whole time and it doesnt change sounds aswell
try to modulate it over time and try to filter it in and out with filter automation or volume automation
cause the track really benefits from some more variation.
personally i think the track is way to busy but i think thats your style
cause every track i heard from you was way too busy for me

yeah this is good, i can say its a typical jordanneke track but i dont,
only point for me the distortion is a little bit too much at the 4 min mark
and mayb the first flash of the synth needs some work, mayb some delay or mayb a little bit longer
the second one is perfect
i think you can add some percussion after the break

thanks for all the feedback and suggestions i really appreciate it
will definitily work further on it. The kick is a standard 808 kick and the bass was made in analog. I spend around 1 hour on making the mix. Things liking panning, volume automations, reverb, gain staging and eqing. Overall the eqing wasnt that exciting just some lpf and hpf. There was a tape emulation on the master bus and there was some saturation. I posted a track in the members section and dubdub mentioned the cold and thin mix aswell so i really need to look into that subject more. I really aiming for that nineties sound so if someone got some tips let me know.
I did a quick test with a second chord for my pad but it wasnt really working
yeah i totally forgot about the velocity changes and a swing setting for the chords, i did the melodies and drums.
About the modulation im not stubborn :) its totally a lack of skills at the moment. I tried to modulate every setting on the synth but it really didnt work for me. At least there is some filter and volume automation and you can hear the bass changing at the end of the song :) I even tried to adjust the arrangement to make the part with the synth on the first beat shorter cause i know there wasnt much modulation. Will come back for some more advice about this later
