Perfect Eq

Post by gurr13r »

Hi all, I was hoping I might get some advice on eq's, I really like the slope on the fabfilter pro Q but find it kind of limited, are there any other options available with the same steep slope? im using Ableton Live on a mac.

I like the Fabfilter.. think its a very good bit of kit.

I said I was not gonna use EQ8 anymore, but out of laziness today, I did. Its was fine for the jobs it did.

Whenever I wanna cut the very bottom out, I usually have a autofilter, with the phase @ 0%. Kills the lot with its steep slope.

This is pretty cool, you can draw in your own curve at any angle and the screen shows a graph that you can draw the curve around, steep as you like! it seems even better than fabfilter, or it would except it doesnt kill for some reason! hmmmm

I use Pro Q as well. I sometimes combine curves to get the end result I want. For example I might use a 6bd Low cut, then a 24bd low cut a little lower in the frequency range so then it rolls off slowly at first then very steeply. You can even throw a bell curve in between for fine tuning.

Sonnox Eq has some nice steep low cut filters.

Mostly I use Liquid Mix Massive Passive emulation

EQ:ing can be highly individual for me depending on track.
Often I use EQ in combination with Drive / Saturation to give a color / character to my master bus. Then, depending on how much initial grit my track-groove contains I either make some gentle boosting with another EQ, or, in 90% of all cases some neat cutting with low Q value.
