Subsekt Creativity Experiment [Ambient / Beatless]

heres my effort.

never really tried to make anything beatless/ambient so wasnt sure how to approach it, in the end i just cut out some small bits of audio that caught my ear and rolled with that.

channel 1 - small audio sample of the truck starting, stretched out a bit and with delay, syntorus, logic autofilter and eq
channel 2 - an audio loop of french people talking from the last sample (i think it is), no fx on this at all, just reversed the audio and have it looping on the track
channel 3 - small snippet of the part in the last sample were the verves 'lucky man' is heard, reversed the audio and added some reverb from logics space designer.
channel 4 - again used some of the lucky man vocal, stretched out a bit, reversed and loaded into the exs sampler, added some delay from delay designer and a bit of eqing.
channel 5 - a sample cut from the leirgjok, loaded into exs sampler, shit loads of reverb on it, eq'd out any low end.

its about 2 mins too long but how and ever

Heres mine.

2 Channels. 10 plugins & a compressor on the master.



I ended up just loading the Lierjgk(??) whistle sample into a simpler, looped a section & stuck an arp on it. It was a very simple midi pattern, and I did a lot of automation (by freehand), overdubbing changing the steps / distance & rate.

That channel had the arp, simpler (with the LFO modding everything a little), EQ8, Chorus (just a few % wet), Ambience (Free Reverb plug) & compressor. The clip had an automation channel inside, looping over 3 bars with a bit of % feedback happening on the Chorus.

I used the other sample of walking in the countryside to have something else going on. There was a Madshifta (Free metallic pitchshifter thing), Autofilter, Erosion, Oligarc Chorus (Free Chorus) & TAL Reverb (Free)

I also had a send, with TAL Dub (Free) on it.

I think the thing I learned / enjoyed the most about this was how much you can change the sound by doing passes of live automation. I had to loop it & fuck about, twisting things to see what sounded slightly interesting, or could be used to keep it going. At one point, I put the res right up & it sounded very liquid. Something very small, but it bought me a few bars.

Was also nice doing a pass, then on another, making a rough movement on a reverb or something. Not really the type of thing I would usually considering doing, but it made sounds out of nothing and without adding more stuff.

Just after seeing that it's 4mins. Fuck. Didn't realise it was that long. haha

Put a comp on the master to bring it up a little.

I'd love to have done something drone-y like that. Might have another go.

Three (Stereo) channels.
One Aux channel.
Ten plugins.

CH.1-2: The crowd sample, pitched down several octaves. Brought through Fabfilter Saturn with mild settings, then I added a convolver plugin and used a part of the crowd sample to blend in with the sound. Then I inserted a full wet Valhalla Vintage Verb with long decay and minor slow modulation settings. EQ adjusting.
CH.3-4: The instrument sample, pitched down several octaves, ran through Audio Damage Discord III with a granular "chaos" settings, much cross feedback, some filtering and pitching on right channel. Then it all goes through an instance of Audio Damage Ronin which controls delays and feedback. EQ adjusting.
CH.5-6:The crowd sample again, distorted and sliced up, volume modulated to appear go back and forth and a touch of hall reverb (again Valhalla Vintage Verb )via the Aux. EQ adjusting.

Discord is cool. I have it a long time.. but only used it yesterday for the first time in ages. Thats mad.

That chaos cluster is cool, you can drag the cursor over it & it gets wild. I havent tried automating or recording messing with it, but there was some pretty crazy stuff coming out of it.

Some great sounds already.
Interesting idea, especially everyone explaining a bit on what they did. That's a new take on these kinds of things.
I really like those samples too. That one of Paris freaked me out though, that guy starts screaming like a madman lol.
I'll give it a go too when I get some time in the next few days.

Okey here's my attempt, kinda lofi tho...

This is what happened:
channel1: a bit of the chainsaw sample from paris (near to end) -> -4octaves, crushed, eq'd
channel2: small rhythmic part from the noise sample -> reverb, gated, eq'd
channel3: part of voices from paris -> streched out, reverb, 4biteq'd
channel4: truck passing by in paris
channel5: again the saw sample but a larger part -> flanger, saturated heavily
master: limiter trying to keep things under control

10 effects in total, with filter sweeps, lfo's and automations

my production techniques are weak so don't expect much, simple but i like.

I could hear a bit of ableton stretching in there, could I? hhaha. I love the way you guys all got "lonnnng" droning sounding things. I definitely have to try doing that.

Lipo that's pretty amazing. No.1 reminds me of Terminator the way it starts & finishes.

I'm feeling pretty inspired by what I've heard above. Gonna get on this when back from Berlin, if I can co-ordinate my hands.

3 audio tracks and an aux track 10 fx. I used 5 delays, 2 erosions, 1 3-band EQ, auto filter, and a reverb on a return track.
