Native Instruments & Fxpansion - Black Friday Deals.
Re: Native Instruments & Fxpansion - Black Friday Deals.
Yeah I basically agree with all of what you said there Mono. They act and market as the top tier software-for-music company they are and its a bit disturbing.

Agreed on the marketing point too.
Thank you for the laughs, debate, new music found, production tips etc etc over the years. I wish Subsekt and everyone all the best for the future. Wiu.
Re: Native Instruments & Fxpansion - Black Friday Deals.
i had a little chat with Stephan Schmitt (one of the founders of NI and the developer of Reaktor) at BTM Festival after his Reaktor Workshop.Very cool guy (felt at home in a dirty Underground Venue with his slippers on during his workshop ) which aswell isn't comfortable with the direction NI is taking.
Of course i know the potential of some of their products, but in the end it's a workflow/gui thing that kept me away from NI. All the other points i mentioned are just the cherry on top of the cake.

As far as traktor scratch pro and the audio8 goes I think it is decent. But I've never been sold on anything else made by NI.

Re: Native Instruments & Fxpansion - Black Friday Deals.
The only thing I've used from NI is Reaktor, which is quite a beast in terms of capabilities, but it definitely has a certain flavor to it. Every ensemble it comes with sounds the same. I was really excited about FM8 and Massive when they first came out, but I just never could get myself to fork over the money for them. I don't think I'm going to buy anything from this sale. There is just something about NI that I don't like, not sure what it is exactly. (Traktor looks nice though, but I don't DJ so I have no need for it.)
I'm tempted to get one of the FXPansion plugins, but damnit I have to stop buying so many VSTs... lol

Bump
Just got to mess with strobe last nite. Sounds nice, deep as fuck bass & cool mods but have to RTFM.
The challeng is not to make loads of different projects testing them out haha.

Re: Native Instruments & Fxpansion - Black Friday Deals.
Been following NI from their early days, and some of the things we take for granted today, are there only because of their efforts. I'm not working for them or anything, but honestly apart from the commercial aspects, i cant say a single bad word about them. I love the hardware they come up with, the software, the simplicity and awesome user interfaces. I stand at Mattias' side on this one tbh. I dont really care if they have 1000's of presets available for their synths, it gives people who produce music purely as a hobby a flying start, and more experienced users can find out some of the hidden tricks a specific synth is known for by browsing the presets and see how they were done.
Re: Native Instruments & Fxpansion - Black Friday Deals.
I've been using FXpansion's Synth Squad for about a year now (my GF got me the boxed version as an xmas gift last year). I use them almost exclusively now. like Mattias stated strobe (and amber!) are just gorgeous for chord and stab sounds. tbh I haven't really dived into cypher that much.
I grabbed Tremor on the black friday deal. I remember demoing it when it first came out and being really impressed by it's sequencer. however, although I'm not one for using presets, I do like to sift through them to get a feel for what a device is capable of. and all the presets in Tremor are terrible. half of them hurt my ears. literally my ears are sore after listening to some of the preset patches and sequences. everything seems to sound super squashed and heavy.
now I've only been playing with Tremor over the weekend, and have been able to coax some softer sounds out of it, but it would have been nice if not every single preset demonstrated one particular sonic style.
speaking of drum synths, I also picked up DrumSpillage by AudioSpillage on their sale (which lasts until Monday). great soft, digital sounding drum synth. it has no sequencer, but I wasn't too bothered because I use Renoise and I think it's got one of the best sequencers around for programming drums.
regarding Native Instruments. I think a lot of the hate aimed at them is simply because they are so big. I know D16 was mentioned as not shoving artists who use their products down your throat, but that's only because in comparison Native Instruments is such a large company. check the D16 site, they have bubbles and quotes from artists proclaiming how great the D16 stuff is.
nearly every company does this. it is just magnified in the case of NI because they are such a big force in the industry. and in relation to all their stuff sounding digital. that is partly why I like their stuff. it is almost unashamedly digital. they market their stuff as the 'future of sound', not the past which would be indicative of producing more 'analog' sounding instruments.

Re: Native Instruments & Fxpansion - Black Friday Deals.
I'm really really leaning towards Strobe / DCAM. I haven't even touched everything else in the package, but it just sounds SO good.
Been watching some Tut's on YT for DCAM. They've got some really cool mod stuff available on the parameters. Glad I looked it up, cos the mod tabs just wasnt something that was immediately intuitive to me. Still getting used to what the parameters are called in the drop downs as they dont seem to be labelled strangely.
Nice synth.

Re: Native Instruments & Fxpansion - Black Friday Deals.
Wish I hadn't bothered saving a few quid by buying through JRRshop - ordered Friday afternoon, didn't receive the serials til Monday evening (despite a couple of emails to them) and my DCAM serial doesn't bloody work! Have emailed them but they're not the quickest to respond, not best impressed - how hard is it to ship a download licence?!
Had a quick play with Tremor and it seems cool, and a quick flick through the Geist sound library this morning and it sounds top notch - main thing I bought it for was to have a good, high quality, categorised sample library (as mine has a lot of crap in it) but I'm looking forward to exploring the software
