When to Mixdown
When to Mixdown
Getting a track to the mixdown stage is my main problem atm, with a band it's pretty straight forward, but with techno the process messes me up.
Because I use dynamic effects and efx to shape the sounds in the composition stage getting to the mixdown stage becomes blured.
Composition to arrange to mixdown, in my mind, should be 3 separate processes but always comes together in one big mess and I end up not doing anything productive at all.
I was just wondering how you guys go about this?
Cheers, Con

Re: When to Mixdown
I tend to mix as i go Con. I would not judge anything that i have done as being to a pro standard, but I dont tend to have seperate hats that I wear at different points. I like to have everything balanced as much as possible before I sketch out the loop.
If it dont all sound good together and i can get a sense for how its goin to go then I cant procede. Maybe thats my process then, if it doesnt sound right, bin the bastard

Re: When to Mixdown
When I'm happy the structure is 90% there, then it's mix down time for me.
I've only started doing it like recently this because It's taken a long time to get to a stage where I've got anything resembling a structured track.
Before that I was very much part of the process and the overall sound was determined at creation time.

Re: When to Mixdown
usually i mix as i go, i then lay out my arrangement and then i put on FX and adjust the levels of the FX according to my arrangement
Re: When to Mixdown
Do it as you go but save new copies so you can A/B them.
Sometimes I'll go back to an earlier save!
