What the fook is it? A "digital Volume Potentiometer Plug-In"????
Re: Waves OneKnob Louder Plugin free this weekend.
Seconded. You can't do mastering with one knob.Lost to the Void wrote:I vehemently encourage people to ignor this plugin, it will do you no good

I'm gonna grab it. It is free after all. I'm gonna run it at '10' on everything. UNLIMITED POWER!!
Thank you for the laughs, debate, new music found, production tips etc etc over the years. I wish Subsekt and everyone all the best for the future. Wiu.
Re: Waves OneKnob Louder Plugin free this weekend.
man,how should someone learn how to produce/mix properly when some "greedy" companies suggest you there is the "instant pro -sound knob"..i quite like some wave products but this one knob series is just...
Re: Waves OneKnob Louder Plugin free this weekend.
I knew I shouldn't have posted this...
Oh well.
Oh well.
Re: Waves OneKnob Louder Plugin free this weekend.
no no,thanks for sharing information mate....but i don't see any reasonable use for this plug-in
Re: Waves OneKnob Louder Plugin free this weekend.
If I ran 2 instances of this on my master channel both at '10', would it sound awesome?
But seriously, I actually remember reading about these when they were released and thinking how they were a bit of a waste of time. I guess they could be linked to the 'Dance Musics Creative Crisis' thread in that they really are trying to encourage a quick path to success. Why bother learning compression/EQing etc when you can just slap a ridiculously simple plugin on it and job done. That said, I'll download it just because it's free and I'm kind of curious to see what it can do.

That's the spirit. Obviously this plugin shouldn't be seen as a replacement for proper mastering, but it might be nice for those tracks that you don't plan on releasing but want a little more loudness out of.Wiu wrote:I'll download it just because it's free and I'm kind of curious to see what it can do.
I've never used it (or anything like it) so I don't know how well it works, but it's from Waves so that's a good start.
But I figured I'd share it for those of us who aren't mastering engineers or who can't justify paying for mastering on a track that will never be released.
Re: Waves OneKnob Louder Plugin free this weekend.
Just download it. Its probably a nice thing for producers who isn't releasing much (or not at all) and wanna play their own tracks out to test them a bit and want a bit of "limiting / volume & glue". Im sure everyone here knows this is no replacement for proper mastering loudness.

I'm all for DL'n free stuff like this from reputable companies (only if theres no convoluted copy protection needed) so thanks for posting Arc.
But seeing what everyone has said - maybe I'll give it a miss too. Pity.
However, this is a great bit of marketing for these companies. They release something that is free & it spreads like fucking wildfire everywhere. How much would that type of exposure cost you otherwise? And they get people engaged with the brand. Fucking genius.
Reminds me of the success that Alien Force Digital had when they did the 20% off on their T-Shirts

Re: Waves OneKnob Louder Plugin free this weekend.
I hate the fact people are talking about this as an alternative to mastering, the alternative to mastering would be doing a little research, a little learning, and using CORRECTLY the plugins that come with your DAW.
The basic tools that come with most DAW`s are capable of getting good results on your master channel if you simply want to get the level up and gel the mix a touch.
Low cut, Comp, Limiter that`s all you need, do it properly and you can get a nice level.
Don`t fall for this marketing hype and destroy your music for the sake of ease.

Probably the plugin's no use to me since I'd rather do it myself. But it's free so why not? Maybe it can be used as an effect.

You're shopping at a department store and one of the employee offers you a free pair of $80 shoes. They're not the style of shoes you like to wear, but they're worth $80. Do you take them?mjudge wrote:But it's free so why not? Maybe it can be used as an effect.
I would.
(Except in this particular case, they're offering you clown shoes. I would re-sell them! lol)
But on the topic of using plugins like this versus learning how to mix and master. Cubase comes with a plugin called Maximizer which I use on the master bus of tracks that aren't finished, it helps me in the arrangement process. I'm not sure how it works but I'd imagine it works similar to this Waves plugin. Later when the track is nearing completion, I remove that plugin and replace it with Pro-Q and Pro-C and try my best to master it myself, which usually ends up with horrible results. For whatever reason, mastering for loudness is something that I just can't wrap my head around. I'm always baffled how major releases are loud as hell when my volume knob is turned to 11 o' clock, whereas my tracks are barely audible in the same position. It's a slow learning process for me but eventually I'll figure out what I'm doing wrong, until then, I'll give this plugin a shot. It might suck and I'll uninstall it, who knows.
