How to sound like Abdulla Rashim ?
How to sound like Abdulla Rashim ?
Hello my dear friends,
for a while now I'm trying to figure out how to make this round/phat/subtle sound like on the track bellow.
From low end to top end; kick and bass (that's the most important part i would like to know); pads and ambience; it would be nice to get some info and your opinion on how to get it.
For me it sounds like 808 for groove and all other elements were put thru some kind of tape or analog distortion but I'm not sure how.

erm it is a very broad question, but I don't see anything very special about his kick/bass sounds. Have you tried to read some of the archived threads (at the top of the hole - and here if you're lazy https://subsekt.com/forum/viewforum.php?f=48 )
But there is some noise in the background and some pretty long reverb tails that sounds side-chained to the kick (for atmosphere).

Re: How to sound like Abdulla Rashim ?
Kick is just a filtered 808-style kick. Bass sounds like a 303 with a very closed filter and low-medium resonance. Pads and atmospheres are probably FM-based.

I think you probably need to travel back in time to when he was an embryo and extract some stem cells and inject them into your own foetus or some shit?
I dunno man, I just make music and see how it come out, it`s much easier than this time travel/cloning shit.

No harm in reverse engineering.
Working out the puzzle helps build up a wealth of experience.
@FvH.. just keep investigating cool stuff from different tracks, genres etc . Don't fixate on AR. Think that's what people are trying to say here

Ok, so, to OP.
In all seriousness, but.... not the easy answer you might want..
To get "that" sound... well, no tricks I`m afraid.
Essentially in the Rashim track you linked. What is going on here is good production.
Careful choice of sounds that all naturally fit and compliment each other, this leaves EQ work to be more natural sounding, with gentle cuts.
Careful placement of effects, reverb and delay.
Knowing when enough parts are enough.
He`s not got any magic buttons, it`s just good solid basic techniques and composition.
If you want specifics, then you need to break it down, because no one is going to tell you how to make that tune step by step.
