Played around with it for an hour or so. All the modes sound good but I actually like the Space Echo mode the least. Digital is my favorite, been waiting for a proper vintage digital sounding delay for aaaaaages and this really nails that vibe. I also like the Hi-fi tape quite a bit. BBD is nice but a little too dark for my taste.

The diffusion control sounds absolutely incredible. Adds so much life to delays and the reverbs with feedback are mind blowing.

You can do some bonkers fx with the pitch / frequency shifting and feedback.

The ducking / choking behaviour on the tape modes is really nice, when you send something with some dynamics / modulation into them, the feedback ebbs and flows in a very realistic and musical way way. Most plugins don't do this very well, the feedback will just stay at a constant level. The wow / flutter modulation also feels quite lively and nonlinear, although the modelled tape splicing is kind of annoying (luckily you can turn it off by setting age to 0%).

I have been waiting on this, sounding amazing. So much to experiment with in such a simple layout, quite amazing really.

It's also a great saturation / colouring tool if you use it without delay. (synced 1/1)

How does it stack up against Abletons Echo effect?

Idk, I think Echo doesn't sound bad but it sounds kind of ... generic-analog? Valhalla has more character in general and is also waaaay more versatile. But I suppose it depends on how much you need from your delays.

The one advantage Echo does have are the wonderful modulateble resonant filters.

I think it smokes Echo. Echo can certainly make some nice sounds but this has far more interesting options and sounds available. The way these trails sit in the music is really special and like dudbub said, for resampling purposes it sounds excellent.

I instantly started feeding things thru it and recording, very inspiring sounds came easily, the saturation and pitching is great.

If I had to choose one or the other I would no doubt choose this. Try for yourself though and see, all a tastes thing.

All the modes are sounding so good, BBD is beautiful, the digital is something I've waited a long time for in a plugin, ghost and pitching are just mad for sound design. I can see all the modes getting used from my initial use.

Cheers lads. I was 50/50 about demoing it being pretty happy with Echo’s results and I’m not using the valhalla verbs as much any more. I’m not mad into delay but if it genuinely does offer something different, I’ll give it a shot.

Was thinking "not yet another delay", gave it a try anyway, thirty minutes in I put my money in the basket. At 4 AM reluctantly had to get some sleep.
Instant love! A true sound transformer! If I weren't a guitarist, I would sell my Strymon Timeline immediately. For the record, I find Echo a very cool delay/colouring machine as well, just as Dub Machines Magnetic, Primal Tap,... Echoboy can be tweaked into outer worldly sonic beauty as well, Izotope DDLY has some unique quirky tricks. H-Delay is one I've never tried, but saw it favorably mentioned here quite often. Waves has always had that "we're only in it for the money" feel to me...
What would life be without delay?

Looks like a lovely plugin. Delay is always welcome, will try it out.

Nice one. I'm surprised it's taken this long to appear.

I've been avoiding looking at this. haven't listened to any demos as I agree with Mattias that it would probably be essential. Valhalla are great.

some very persuasive comments in here. unanimous. I already have the soundtoys bundle , so think I'm covered for delays. I'm really trying not to listen to the demos...

It does a much more convincing vintage delay than Echoboy (which sounds pretty good but is not that realistic). You can also do some really weird sound design shit with the pitch and ghost modes.
