Quick decision: Monomachine or Analog four?

Post by OHADOHAD »

Hi,
I've just sold couple of stuff I don't use or got tired off... I'm looking for a synth to go with my Analog rytm and soon to be mine Sherman filter bank 2.
I watched trillion of videos but still can't decide...
Monomachine or Analog Four?

Also, none related... Any thoughts about Shruti synth?

Cheers 8-)

Go for colour unity, the A4.

No in all seriousness i personally think that they are
2 completely diffenent synths. Just like the Md and the AR are
different.

What are you looking for in either one of these?

Well, I got the analog 4 but now I wish I got the monomachine, so I am going to buy one.

It all depends on what you want to do. The mono is not analog, but you can go really deep with the sound creation FM vibes, it's a deep monster, a little less immediate than the A4 but you can go unique and wild with it.
The A4 is awesome, more obvious, and sound wise great, but lacking a real defined standout character, it is phat though.

I really need to spend some more time with my Shruthi. I had no issues building it, which is down to the great build instructions. Every time I've used it, I've got some decent sound from it, but I've only really scratched the surface of what it can do. There's a lot going on which I haven't touched upon. They released a bigger kit with more dials which would be great. The menu based system on the standard model is decent enough though.

And fuck it, if you can't decide, get both Elektron boxes! Max the credit card out. Live on nothing but pasta and cheap tomato sauce for 6 months or something.

Thank you for the laughs, debate, new music found, production tips etc etc over the years. I wish Subsekt and everyone all the best for the future. Wiu.

If you get a monomachine the colours won't match! So it has to be the A4.

Valid points from everyone, specially colour wise.
Like most of you I guess, im a techno/electronics producer,
You think one is more suitable than the other for that type of music?
I know my synthesis and you can design the sound which ever way you like
But there's always the machine 'vibe'.
Wish I could buy both, but getting married soon and my fiánce will kill me before
I will even touch the machines!

I've got Shruthi XT. Sounds amazing. From what I understand, some people find the menu diving on the standard model a bit of a faff and others don't. Everything's mappable to MIDI cc if you really need to have greater control.

For the money, there's not really anything that sounds as good...

Dunno how you work but i'd consider the total DAW integration via Overbridge for the Analog Four. Got mine since 4 weeks and it's a pretty rad machine. Depending on your programming skills it can sound like you want it to sound.

The thing is I'm trying to move away from the computer as much as possible.. That screen is killing me!
Didn't really connect with the overbridge till now... was mainly working on my rytm interface, but will give it a go.
How bout thin sound on the monomachine? some feedback I was reading mentioned kinda thin, chiptone kinda character... Is it true or is it probably because these people couldn't get the synthesis?

If its the same like the machinedrum(which i think it is). Its due to the people using it, the amchiendurm kan sounds really big though you could twist on parameter and lose all character.

You just need to know what you are doing.

You should also keep in mind that the monomachine is a fully finished machine where as the A4 has room for more OS updates in the future, I think the a4 is also a bit easier for live/recording use with the parameter macros. This way you will know which knobs you turn when recording and if chosen right will be sure that the character of the sounds you made wont be dramatically changed by your enthausiastic twist fingers.

There's an easy fix fix that, just buy this:

I was actually looking to buy the red one, not sure yet though.

OT: I have a monomachine atm, and it's pretty neat. Have played around with an analog 4 for a bit, and it sounds a little better, and has more streamlined editing/integration as already mentioned. You have to decide for yourself if that difference is worth the extra cash. Actually getting (well, borrowing) an A4 in a couple of weeks, so I was clicking around on youtube for a bit and found this:

how far do you want to go

I've been looking for a cheapish way to control my MS10 through CV for a while. My AD/DA interfaces aren't DC coupled, so I'd need something like ES-3. The A4 does have 4 CV outputs, if that is of interest to you.
The A4 isn't exactly a cheap solution, but it is a great machine with this added bonus. First, getting into my neglected MD again, before buying something new... remember Lance's recent thread, borg.

K, so I think I'm going for the monomachine!
was more convinced by the synth engine, 6 midi sequencers and user waves.
I think it will also work well with my Rytm and Sherman filterbank 2.
I also got a Strymon timeline and looking for a cheapish reverb pedal for now...
any thoughts about EH Cathedral?

Id go polara man. its stereo 150 euro and pretty good. I use one myself. Its quite interesting to send the kcik trough it with short decay and pretty dry. It adds some nice character.

Anyway, Im thinking on getting an AR because the machinedrum alone isnt Enough for what i want to do.

I want to have some nice round analog percussions that could pass as handpercussion instuments?

What are your thoughts on the AR? from what I see its exactly what I need, with the analog engines and the layering abilities etc.

I love the AR, and the new update (came out 3 days ago) makes this machine even better!
12 new synths, big improve on the OB sync, and more upgrades to come.
The layering of samples together with the analog stage is great, I would be happy if they will add more sample manipulation options, but hey, you cant have it all.

and do you mean digitech polara?

Yeah the digitech. Not sure if it suits you but its serving me well.

Thanks i think ill dive into the AR and keep the MD as well.

I love the idea that its not finished yet, i have the same with my A4. Every time an update comes its like getting a new subsynth.
