Very annoying latency problem
Very annoying latency problem
Since a couple of days I'm experiencing very bad latency problems and audio dropouts. I have tried many things recommended by ableton, but still no solution..
Here are my specifications:
* Ableton Live 9
* ASUS N56J laptop, Windows 8.1 Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-4700HQ CPU @ 2.40GHz 2.39 GHz, 6GB RAM, 64-bit
I have frozen and flattened every channel in the project file and the dropouts still occur, ???

Tried adjusting the buffer settings yet?

Yep, the buffer sample sizes are optimized down to a point where the cracks/distortion is eliminated (in the test tone). I have also installed the ASIO4all driver without result.

No soundcard?
Re: Very annoying latency problem
As in an external soundcard? Nope, it's an onboard 'soundcard'.Lost to the Void wrote:No soundcard?

Re: Very annoying latency problem
There`s your problem, it`s not ableton.
on board soundcards are prone to all sorts of trouble, I`d go to a forum for your motherbaord manufacturer and see if there are any threads about soundcard problems relating to latency, asio, music production.
Essentially, get yourself a proper soundcard.

Also check the hard drive indicator in ableton, could be your hard drive is not fast enough

You've not given very much information. If it's not the soundcard:
Is is affecting playback only, or offline render as well?
Does this happen if you create a brand new test Ableton set?
Have you installed anything new over the past week (audio related or not)?
Have you checked task manager to see if there is some rogue processes eating up CPU/RAM?
Do you have any other apps open or active (check the area around the clock).
Do you have anti virus running? Does it still do it if you turn it off.
Have you tried disconnecting your network cable and or disabling the wireless card.

Re: Very annoying latency problem
asio4all does have a latency adjustment panel...Try that? I have always had decent results with it when I had to use it.

Re: Very annoying latency problem
While I agree that you definitely are going to want a decent soundcard, I have never had asio4all not work when needed in a pinch. take a screen shot of your setting from the asio4all control panel?

If it works out that's great, but they're not designed/manufactured to the high spec needed for audio production.Patriek wrote:All this hate vs the internal soundcard! I have one, and i never have any problems with it. Haters will be haters!
I remember the first time I got a soundcard, an emu 0404 (i think, ancient now) and the difference was immense. It had some really decent spec converters for the time but it didn't work at all with certain chipsets and so I had to upgrade my soundcard after my old laptop died ..

Re: Very annoying latency problem
I had an 0404 too. I also had a little PCI? card for a laptop one. I forget the manufacturer now. Back when laptops had that big ass card slot in them...LOL.

Yep, same one, real old, for laptops with the express or network card slot (?)! They came with software designed to mimic old emu samplers, the most unintuitive software I've ever used!! ..nomadjames wrote:I had an 0404 too. I also had a little PCI? card for a laptop one.
