Arturia has a new-ish Culture Vulture emulation. It's pretty good!

I love saturation, its such a great way to make things gel in a mix. I use it accumulatively, small amounts across different instruments. Usually pushed too hard plugins don't sound good.

I dont think this one got mentioned yet:

The Bedroom Producers Blog - Saturator (free)

https://bedroomproducersblog.com/free-v ... saturator/

Its very crude, but it works well for deep basses, rumbles and subs to give them presence and meat in the mix.

Turn output down about a third or half way down, tape sat up to about 22%, use in built lowpass to taste, then adjust output volume in detail comparing with bypassing plugin to match volume, so you actually hear the difference rather than it just being louder, then finish off by tweaking to taste.

Could also beef up kick bodies and tails, but will ruin initial attack. I dont think id use this saturation in other context, but for this job its good.

Well...
I'm investing a shitoad of money on a pure mojo rack for the mastering room.

So far I have an all valve handmade Pultec Style stereo EQ.
SPL Tube vitalizer
Elysia Karacter
Sonic Farm Creamliner
FT1 Freqtube.
And I'm having a custom 2, channel EMI Rs124 made.

That should give me all the saturation mojo I or anyone else would require.

Update: added a few new plugins

Neo Old Big AL - its a rather lovely one trick pony.
Phil's Cascade - still exploring it...
SP950 - limited but pretty nice, its does THAT sound alright
Thenatan The Tape - very nice lo-fi tape with extra features, reverb, echo, bitcrusher, and noise
Samplex3 - cheap and nice bitchrusher, but it has two filters hp / lp that really expand its sonic capabilities

So I mainly use these 4 plugins. Giving me a good pallet of saturation and distortion.

- Airwindows oneclipcorner - hard clipping
- Airwindows density - Absolutely main mix weapon to open up sounds. Can't say how often I use this but a lot!
- Unfiltered Audio Indent 2
- Elysia Karacter (plugin)

And some outboard gear.

I bought a 90s Pre VLZ Mackie 1202 for 80€. It still works and it is the best drum overdrive ever for me. Running my drum buss through. On 909 sounds it just sounds right.
