Sound advice (or advise?) beta

Hi, been thinking about a format for tips and tricks for a while now. And decided to give it a try like this: https://ronnypries.de/sound-advice/ Still working on it, mobile tweaks need to be done, stuff needs editing and so on. I'm happy about feedback! One question: I wonder how I can include subs...

Re: Don't get me wrong.. ANFS Kick Drum _ How To?

You're welcome, glad to help! Imho the magic happens in between stages and especially with cutting the low end at the right frequencies. I've been adding way too much low end resonance in the sampler for example to really overload the first AMP. In the end, for this kinda stuff, forget all your mann...

Re: Don't get me wrong.. ANFS Kick Drum _ How To?

I'm hearing a standard 909 kick sample and number of fuzz pedals/AMPs. I'd attend such a thing like this (it's not meant to sound the same, but the grit is similar):

Re: Just slow as fuck progress

how do you deal with just being straight up slow when making music? like go a loop im into - I even KNOW how I'm going to flesh out the track. I know where I want to go. But just shit seems to take forreeeveerr. Lack of focus, whatever idk. It's not even like endless YouTube browsing getting in the...

Re: Black Friday shizzles

It's good, comes with different saturation flavours. Just eased the pain and bought the ADT. Think that's one of the few Waves plugs standing out from the mass. Also couldn't help but purchase SoundToys PhaseMistress.

Re: Cutting back to the essentials

I'd remove everything, start working with Abletons resources only. And whenever you're sitting there thinking "something's missing" ask yourself what and why. If you find a reasonable answer, move it back into your VSTs. Been there, done that - worked very well.

Re: plugin reviews with audio examples and comparisons to stock fx

Wouldn't it be great to see and hear all these things? Of course there is a point in comparing a linear phase EQ to a straight linear digital EQ, precisely because they have different uses. A comparison can show what they are and how much the plug-ins actually help or hinder. What impact do the var...

In this day we expect simplicity.

But we just can't have it in all cases.
There are no simple solutions to complex problems.

Re: plugin reviews with audio examples and comparisons to stock fx

I'll add an often overlooked aspect to this: what a plugin 'feels' like to use. I mean, sure - you can dial in exactly the same settings into similar compressor types and compare their outputs. But that's one thing. It lacks the entire "getting there". In the end there are so many subtle things in t...

That sounds a lot like the acid line from Brown Bros 'Battery Acid', but sped up a little.
It will of been sampled from somewhere. Not sure it's from there though.

Re: Before I pull the trigger!

Apple fucked up the new i9 based MBP's by margins. If you tax the CPU too much it get's so hot the throttling degrades its performance below the i7 generation. What a joke.

I think Dell as well as Razor's laptops are pretty good.

Re: Things you somehow just figured out NOW...

I constantly have to remind myself to learn more shortcuts. I sometimes feel I'm the dumbest idiot using Ableton or Bitwig. I know there are tons of ways to get to Rome. Some of which drastically remove obstacles. And whenever learning a new and quicker way I'm like "SUPER HERO 9000!". Instead of le...

Glad to see so many using VUMT. Such a lovely little tool.

When I make tracks, I only watch the peak level. Nothing else.
On which reference scale? Standard -18 dbfs?

Re: Your thoughts about Izotope Ozone?

Loudness potential sits mainly in the mix. What was your aim Ronny, raising the level? No, my aim was gathering opinions on this: "What I found interesting about 8 is the new mastering assistant. Somebody described it as a second set of ears. Yet, idk really know what to think about it. I generally...

Ah ok sorry. I have a caffeine buzz. My point is that the mastering assistant doesn't teach anything at all - not even what not to do.
Ok, cool. Heard ya!
