Still a noob but here's my track number 99

I only started producing last spring but already somehow managed to make a 100 little 'tracks' (most of them are just one minute loops). I think this one is my favorite so far, so I'm curious what people here think about it. The low end is a bit 'Berghain-y' generic, but it's the best I can do I sup...

Re: Jager - The force of Jupiter EP (90' vibe)

I see what you are going for and I like the idea, however I think the low end needs more compression and grit (maybe some more saturation?), right now it's a bit ambigious and doesn't really 'boom' like those 90s tracks do.

Re: Midnight jamming

The first and third both remind of Minilogue / Wa Wu We a bit. I like the lightwheight, organic drums and bass. They have potential but need some more melodic content, the tracks are too bare bones to be as loopy as they are.

Re: Abstain - Jordanneke

Some nice sounds, also got no complaints about the mix. However I think the track really could benefit from some more swing and also more movement in the low end to make the track more fluid, right now it feels very rigid, which is a shame, since the melodic parts move nicely and are quite dynamic.

Re: Future Perfect first techno tracks

I really like the first track around 3 minutes. But I agree that the melodic / synth content needs to a bit more present. Also I'd maybe easy up a bit on the reverb / background hiss.

Re: Chabo - Gemini 2

I like the kick and the background pads. The bassline sounds a bit too static for my taste. Also the closed hats sound a little too quiet / thin, I think.

Re: Sam S. - Track 01

It's very basic but nice. I'd play it in the right context. But then again, it's hard to mess this kind of sound up :P

Agree that it would benefit from some more FX / atmosphere.

Re: Shitty electro for ya'll cunts

The idea is there, but I agree that the drums need to be a bit more sparse. I'd also try and lessen up a bit on the distortion when trying to make electro.

Re: rasa nocna - nebula drift

The low end, drums and pads sound solid but i'm not sold on the synth. It sounds a bit weird and dull. Maybe some more resonance to make it more acid-y?

Re: umm... I just discovered Luke Slater's 7th Plain...

Yeah the whole 4 cornered room album is excellent. I bought a lot of the GPR stuff in the 90's. Great stuff. What else would you recommend in the GPR catalogue? It's almost all good. Luke Slater has another very underrated album under the Morganistic alias on there, some nice Hood-esque minimal-ish...

Re: Best kick drum compressor 2015?

On a related note, is compressing a kick even something that's always worth doing when making club techno? I've heard some people say that compressing something like a 909 kick is not really necessary. I've tried myself and haven't gotten huge improvements, granted, I'm really bad at compression.

Re: umm... I just discovered Luke Slater's 7th Plain...

Lol. I was just going to post 'Lost' in the 'What's your favorite 90s track' thread. Early 90s "intelligent" techno is just endlessly fascinating to me. i'm not sure why you're refering Innervisions etc. as almost everything on those labels sounds very emotionally neutered and calculated. Which is o...

Re: Any Vril fans here?

Sure, he hasn't reinvented the weel, but saying his music doesn't have any personality, just because it works within familiar realms seems a bit extreme to me. If you'd give me a stack of unlabeled dub techno promos, I could immediately tell you which one is by Vril. Which obviously isn't the case f...
