Re: clipping transients
z8st0fMHWHI There's some cool stuff on this channel I haven't come across elsewhere. Their philosophy is to clip on individual channels to achieve desired loudness so there's no/as little limiting as possible on the 2bus. They use the following video to demonstrate in a simple way why clipping acro...

Re: ASK US ANYTHING [NO SUBJECT IS STUPID / ALL QUESTIONS WELCOMED]
I've mentioned this a few times, but dynamic consistency is a key thing. You produce consistently to a similar RMS range (appropriate to genre) at a consistent preset listening level. There are many benefits to this. Mixing to the same RMS and monitoring always at the same level at that RMS gives y...

Re: I think I might have to stop using headphones
Also a set of Flare calmer (I use the HD90s which are fucking amazing) will help both deal with tinnitus, and keep it away as they clean up mid range. I highly recommend them to you all, the entry level calmers are just 20 quid and can be worn under headphones (though you will provably end up weari...

Re: klark Teknik pricing
But they're both passive inductor designs, right? Also when I changed the valves in my KTs, the sound of the Q changed. I can't explain why. I guess Klark-Teknik decided not to use valves in the EQ stage for manufacturing reasons. I was pretty surprised to discover that they used four valves in thei...

Re: klark Teknik pricing
Maybe this Pultec shootout is helpful to understand the differences between clones; from Klark Teknik all the way up to Pulse Tech, also plugins too. https://www.sweetwater.com/insync/pulte ... d-samples/
But yea, to reiterate, the valves make a difference.

Haha, alright man, fine. What am I to do? I already said I don't know the answers. The best I can do is fumble, speculate and make it clear (which I did) that it's my experience. I hear something and I'm asking myself why is that happening.

Re: klark Teknik pricing
Decapitator doesn't even sound slightly like a Culture Vulture. Like not even vaguely close. Nor is it meant to. I have the TCV-ME. The culture culture absolutely does not effect spaciality or "front to back". What you get is a piece of hardware that is almost plugin like in it's accurate control. ...

Re: klark Teknik pricing
What NOS valves did you use? I have a couple of the EQPs; they probably don't sound all that authentic but they are pretty nice for the money. I'd be interested in messing with some replacement tubes to see what happens. Mullards and Brimars I think, can't recall exactly. I remember in the Kt-2A I ...

Re: klark Teknik pricing
I have a pair of both compressors and the pultec. They are fantastic for the money. I put NOS valves in the KT-2As and Pultecs, with lots of experimentation/recording to see which brand of valve suited which socket. The pultec with stock valves sounds like it has a sharper Q, more pokey and less nat...

Re: SKNote New plugins
To answer simply you have to understand compression. Backing off the attack doesn`t delay the application of gain reduction by x milliseconds, it merely sets the time in which the gain reduction will reach maximum. A compressor is only ever compressing or releasing. So once the threshold is crossed...

Re: SKNote New plugins
Really adds beautiful weight and punch to the stereo mix and keeps the transients rounded. Just trying to make sense of this... if you're using a compressor for punch, you'll back off the attack to let the transient through - how would that then 'round' the transients? Is it the compression curve a...

Re: What headphones would you buy for £100-200ish ?
Since it's related to this mega-thread I thought I'd post here: How should you gain-stage a headphone amp? Should you try to hit the amp at 0vu/-18dbfs and then attenuate the amp's volume to the right level for your ears? I googled my question but found no satisfying answer and there was no info in ...

Re: Sonarworks Reference 4
I spect it to be SBIR as speaker placement has a huge impact on the dip (just measured after rearranging the studio and it is more around 70Hz). Unfortunately it seems that moving my speakers away from the wall does have a good effect which makes it really hard to have a listening spot from where I...

Re: Sonarworks Reference 4
Demoed it and it does sound much more clear. Does everbody find it to lead to better mixes? I suppose in a well treated room the corrections are small and beneficial but I am wondering what is the price to fill my 100 Hz dip. An eq gain at this frequency would e quite substantial - probably with al...

This YouTube channel helped me a lot to get a better understanding of the topic: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zMwTOXBCH8o That's a nice video and channel. I've read about limp membrane traps - they seem decent, but my question still remains as to whether or not its worth it to make them yourself...

DIY Broadband Absorbers with Bought Tuned Bass Traps?
I would post over at John Sayers but you need to fulfil criteria in order to do so when all I really want to ask is a quick question. I also know all the faces here and I’ve read all the threads in the past on acoustic treatment too. Given how easy it is to build broadband absorbers I’m wondering if...

Re: Another mid budget monitor thread
Not sure if this the best place for my post but given that all the companies have been mentioned previously in this thread it seems appropriate. I have £3k to drop on monitors. I’m looking at KH 310, PSI A17-M and Barefoot Footprint. I mainly produce modern electronica, think Holly Herndon, Max Coop...
