Re: Lofi drums/sounds
Just got a TE Pocket Operator 33 - absolutely brilliant for lofi 8 bit percs and drum loops.
Dunno if I'd wanna have too much of it in a track - it'd probably sound a bit OTT but making really dry dirty hi hat & clap patterns etc during lunch breaks as Digitakt food will be awesome.

Re: Question around drums, reverb and energy
Maybe experiment with heavy parallel compression on your drum bus? Make sure the reverb is either on sends routed to the drum bus or all on channel inserts so it gets processed along with the dry drums. Tune to taste but quite extreme so the compressor really grabs the reverb tails, mashes them into...

Re: Lofi drums/sounds
Oh my that’s really long process, to much hassle :D, however I agree with a last point it’s a most important thing to do :D Loving the idea of recording audio to tape, speeding it up, resampling then slowing down.... also recording audio, pitching up, resampling then pitching back down. @juodas, I ...

Re: Lofi drums/sounds
To my ears I reckon a lot of "lofi house" producers just make a basic tune and saturate/compress the hell out of the 2bus, shelf off the high end then slam it into a limiter which ends up sounding like poopoo. I've been experimenting with dirtying up drums and doing something along these lines has w...

Re: AKG 701's distorting
I also had to replace my first set of 701s for low end dirstorion on one side, second were fine. Have you had a look at the drivers? A hair sometimes gets in there and creates what sounds like a rattle triggered by bass - all it takes is unscrewing the felt bit, picking/blowing the hair out and it's...

I'm still dithering. Keep hearing that the Nyx is more "out there" sound design wise. Anyone tried a Nyx?

Re: Show Us Your Junk! Video Series
Saw the Albini one earlier today - my intererest peaked because he mastered my old band's 7". Really like how he's not snobby about gear - for example using a cheap stereo compressor that works just fine for general production duties when you might expect someone like that to get a bit high and migh...

Re: Erebus 3!!
Did anyone get the Erebus 3? Worth it? I'm doing fine in the box with a couple of good controllers but I'm gagging to step into the hardware realm - I'm looking for a really hands-on synth that's flexible, fun and just good sounding - I picked up the Keylab MKII a while ago which has CV connectivity...

Re: when your tracks sounds like shit to you
This thread resonates with me - I think I'm probably way behind the OP where I'm at but I've struggled a lot with these issues over the past few years and I've found a lot of satisfaction and progress in these four things: 1 - Bit of a wanky interview but Objekt outlines a very methodical workflow i...

Anyway, one of my other big hobbies, apart from techno/synths/sci-fi, is astronomy and astrophotography. I am an utter stereotype. But this seems as good a time as any to share one of my pics. This is the lunar eclipse (which was also a 'super moon') of September 2015 at the height of totality: htt...

Having just gotten a Clarett 8 Pre I haven't had the money or the time to treat my room in any way but I'm still more than happy with the Sceptre 6s - I've backed off the top end a smidge but they're punchy and versatile. Crazy stereo image as reported!

Re: UK People. When Are You Moving To Ireland?
I think it's a pretty interesting moment in history. Growing up I always thought of politics as this glacial process where very sensible dry as hell people came to sensible conclusions for the shared benefit of everybody, to the extent that that's possible. I've lived abroad for the past 5 or 6 year...

I was looking for more of a garden variety interface but the MTK looks awesome. Connectivity wise - are the other similar looking but cheaper 12ch USB mixers from Yamaha and Behringer etc able to record all 12 channels simultaneously and route back out again or is that the Soundcraft's unique advant...

Yeah, there's a live chat in the site, talk to them if you're interested and they can work it out for you. Argh, damn you Godfrey  I wish you hadn't told me about that crazy price. Maybe I'll just stick to my guns rather than mess about with returns and refunds etc, I'm real busy right now so ...

Re: Another mid budget monitor thread
Yeah definitely a good purchase! I've been always a bit skeptical about ported monitors, and I think I decided to go for the pioneers over the presonus because of the way they implemented it. Also agree with Steve, they fucked up their pricing but I've found a Spanish shop were they have them cheap...

Re: Another mid budget monitor thread
I've heard and worked on both sceptres, I demoed the Pioneers when I was looking for new nearfields but I didn't compare. I think they are very capable, I know the sceptres better and so prefer them, but I couldn't say they are "better". The low end on the Pioneers was pretty meaty for a 6.5 inch d...

Re: Another mid budget monitor thread
3x3 is the absolute worst case scenario, called the demon dimensions, so you aren't dealing with that, and you are rectangular, which is better if you shoot down the long axis. But still, there will be nodal problems, the short width might be a pain. Nothing to be scared of, I'm a picky mastering e...

1k would max me out and I'd have to wait a while to get an interface but for the right product I could stretch to that.

Re: Another mid budget monitor thread
Might as well get the Scepter 8 instead. To be honest the S6s are £840 a pair in my local shop, the S8s are £1440. Quite a difference for me and if the S6s are supposed to suit a smaller room better then it's all pointing in one direction for me. I have neighbours right behind where the speakers wi...

Re: Another mid budget monitor thread
Yeah, I'm not sure anything is around more ideal for a small room at that price. The S6's are tight, and the dual concentric nature really helps with imaging in less than ideal spaces. Great monitors Cheers, I'm going shopping on Saturday so I'll try a few out but I'm definitely tilting towards the...
