Re: Experimentation, new ideas, avoiding tropes.
Music composition for dummies is a good companion to music theory for dummies. Composition book obviously not a complete one stop never look anywhere else again book but a good encouraging stick, the pair of them.

Re: Let's talk Acid...
I feel psychedelics are something i do every year or so to clear off the moss that accumulates from the bollocks that is day to day life. Last time I did them i felt so much more natural afterwards, like my whole body was relaxed for days. It's not always fun during but then that's not the point, al...

Re: Let's talk Acid
Much prefer the Luke Vibert type of buzz when it comes to 303s for the last while, instead of it being dark, driven or aggresive .. I walked past Luke Vibert once and he said 'reet mate'. True story. It does feel like Lukey V has mastered the instrument as an instrument. I like his lovers acid albu...

Re: Let's talk Acid
I bloody loves me some acid. I had a tb3 and now I have a x0xb0x. I sometimes whack x0xb0x through an MXR distortion plus then into some compression on my Tascam DP24. Sometimes I use delay, sometimes I use reverb and once I fed into the flanger effect on said Tascam and it sounded good. Here's one ...
Re: Books
I recently read The Princess Diarist And Wishful Drinking By Carrie fisher. Extremely well written, heaps of personality. Currently reading: What Matters Most is How Well You Walk Through the Fire by Charles Bukowski. Which is wonderful and sad and beautiful. And one that I think everyone here shou...

Re: The history of the invention of FM synthesis
This is very informative too. His comparison of the speeding up clapping hand explaining the basics of FM helped me understand it far more than I did before.

Re: Favourite effects pedals?
I've got a Blue Sky that is pretty versatile. No midi in but still stereo in and out with shimmer on it along with a few other settings. I think I've used it on everything I've recorded since I bought it. It is always fun to put my JX-8P through it on shimmer setting and full decay time and basicall...

I really like his handclap method of explaining it.

Re: Dreadbox
I own a Dreadbox Erebus, although not for much longer as I am currently ebaying it. It does sound lovely, really rich, thick and organic sounding. The patchbay can get you some decent weird sounds too, along with the delay. The reason I am selling it is because I have everything either linked up wit...

Re: Xmas Music Related Purchases
I just got me a Dreadbox Erebus delivered. like a month ago but it is still christmas. I also got a double keyboard stand so my DX21 and JX-8P can be used all the time. I've not got enough plug sockets to do this but I'm sure running 12 off one socket will be fine when I get round to getting an exte...

Re: Vermona DRM.
Id do some research on the TR8 before you buy. Build is great.. layout & size are bang on.. & it sounds fantastic; but there are a few considerations: 4 physical outs. Full outs over USB forces you to use the TR8 as your main soundcard. Check if you can use it alongside your current SC while tracki...

Re: Harrison Mix Bus
I've not used it yet. However I just took delivery of a lovely new 7 string guitar, so I will be starting my new Doom metal ep this week and will be mixing the while thing down with Harrison. So once that's finished I'll have a good report. Alright. Not to untechno this too much, but what amp are y...

Re: analogue mixer
Hello. I sometimes plug all my kit into my Allen & heath Zed14 and use that straight to my Tascam recorder all in one take. It has sends so I can route stuff to a reverb and the Tascam has compressors on the incoming channels so I can do some meddling with the sound. I have a Strymon Blue Sky as ou...

Thank you for posting this guide and the others. I've been referring to your guide of how to 'home master' your tunes for a while, trying to teach myself how to use compression and eq effectively and it has proven the simplest to understand.

Re: Arturia kickbrute / Drumbrute
I own a drumbrute and I'm not sure how people have found it wimpy. The kicks are proper thumpy and if you turn the decay and tone up you can get some nice tails on there. The hats seem to divide people but if you use the filter on board to cut the lows and boost the resonance, you can gt some pretty...

Re: Just bought a korg ES-1, anyone used one on here?
I have an es-1. I use it for fairly mundane sampling duties, when I really should be digging a bit deeper into it. Anyway, once you work out how to sample, chop and how the thing works, it is very useful. Mine has a mart media card which I think is basically used as a backup and takes a while to loa...

Re: How to get the most out of a Tr-08
I had a TR8 which just I sold and just bought a Drumbrute which feels like a proper window shaking, pancreas bursting instrument. The TR8 was my first drum machine and was and still is fun but some of its sounds felt like a photograph of a really good sound, especially the kicks. I know this is not ...

Re: Compact mixer with USB audio
Hello, I have a Zed14 and whilst it does have a USB connection, it will only let you record a stereo output through this, not individual tracks/channels. You can choose whether this is the whole mix or selected send's but doesn't sound like what you are after. I like the mixer though, it seems to be...

Re: Out of interest what syth-esque device....
I've been listening to and making a fair chunk of acid techno recently. Not uploading any to soundcloud or showing it to friends but just for myself. Basically only found it a year or so ago, so it's all pretty exciting to me. Do you not think you occasionally just want some 303? I think the sound i...
