Yep - 100% agree. Got my 42-year-old self feeling like I'm 20 again!

Re: Harking back to the old days
I don't have the same affinity or memories attached to stuff. I think this is the main issue for me. I rarely have anything meaningful these days to relate good, new music to. Conversely, I suspect I will have fond memories in 10 or 20 years of some of the rubbish pop music my kids have listened to...

Re: Sorry I went AWOL for so long
The reality is he probably won't be leaving the hospital and that moment of hope for him was a seriously bad punch in the guts for me. Sorry to hear about the challenges everyone is having at the moment. That sentence above is one of the most brutal things I've read recently - it really hit me when...

Re: Rise of Youtube tutorials and masterclasses..
I like to use tutorials as both education and inspiration. Take bits and pieces from various vids and then apply it to your own productions, in your own way. I sort of think of it like baking a cake. Give 2 people the exact same ingredients, but quite often the end products will be quite different f...

Awesome stuff, thanks heaps for this!
I know many people think Live 11 is not much of an update, but there is so much there for me that I almost have option paralysis at the moment...so this might help me to stay on track - or not...

Re: Experimentation, new ideas, avoiding tropes.
Somewhat related to this thread; I just put on an Inigo Kennedy mix to listen to at work and there was a section that sounded like deliberately out of time syncopation which I thought sounded ok as a bit of a sound design/arrangement type thing and then after a while I thought 'geez this is going on...

Re: Experimentation, new ideas, avoiding tropes.
This is definitely something that can be difficult to put your finger on - making something interesting, but not so far removed from the norm that it is not good to listen to. I think it's this balance that we all strive for - something interesting and fresh but still also aesthetically pleasing to ...

Working fine for me on Windows 10 so far (but only had a little bit of time last night to have a play)
The only bug so far is that it hasn't instantly made me get any better at writing good songs...

Re: Ableton Live 11 Update
Slynk is awesome. Really knows his stuff and I like his laid-back presentation style. While I (and I presume most of us in this forum) don't produce the type of music he does, I've learnt heaps from watching his videos. Also, it's the last day to get the discount on upgrading - should be out tomorro...

Love these sorts of threads - helps to push through creative blocks and get you out of your normal production routines.
Great sounds dubdub - the last one of the chords replayed through a granular synth reminds of metaphysical, a pretty nice generative synth in reaktor

A great tune, roughly produced, will beat a generic piece of meh music produced to a legendary standard any day of the week.
I couldn't agree more but wish I had worked this out a long time ago...

Re: Stop fussing and get shit done.
Definitely laziness for me is the biggest thing. Both in terms of putting in the effort to turn a basic idea into a full track and in learning the tools & techniques properly. But to qualify that (and make myself feel better about being lazy), I normally only get a chance to start working on things ...

Re: Even fucking Calvin Harris is making business techno now
My feeling about this is 'meh'. This kind of dance music is similar to that 'euro-dance' stuff that was in the charts in the 90's-00's. Stuff like 'Sandstorm' or 'Alice Deejay'. It's so far removed from my experience that it's like ACDC coming through town. I don't even care enough to get upset. Ca...

Re: A playlist of my 100 favorite house tracks between 2010 and 2019
Very cool, thanks for sharing.
Pretty sad that I'm so far out of the loop these days that I recognise just about none of them.
But I'm looking forward to working my way through them. And given that I love hearing "new" music, maybe it's a good thing that I've been out of the loop.

Re: Show us your kickdrums - 2020
Nice - thanks for the detail. I think this is what I need to breathe some life into the masses of incomplete tracks I have - I always have trouble with getting decent kicks - so having some detail on how to dial things in will be very useful.
Re: MPC One
Yeah, pretty sure it says in the video (in the original post) that you can export .als files and stems.
But I'm interested in seeing how this works in practice.

I'm the same as what some of the others have said. Normally go straight to the hole or dialogue and see what's sitting at the top of those sections. Occasional visit to members tracks (that I hope to get back to more regularly this year - for both reviewing others and getting some more of my tracks ...

Re: Fog Capture - Regret
Great track. Love the overall feel. And the sentiment resonates big with me right now having turned 40 last year and wondering how things could/might be different and would that be better or worse than where I'm currently at. Well produced and great arrangement in my opinion. Easily releasable quali...
