A great tune, roughly produced, will beat a generic piece of meh music produced to a legendary standard any day of the week.

I couldn't agree more but wish I had worked this out a long time ago...

Definitely laziness for me is the biggest thing. Both in terms of putting in the effort to turn a basic idea into a full track and in learning the tools & techniques properly. But to qualify that (and make myself feel better about being lazy), I normally only get a chance to start working on things ...
