Re: Techno in Asia

I sometimes have those feelings aswell but at the same time feel we can hardly complain given the options we westerns have. Lately I have been looking into doing my Master studies in Southeast Asia and I think it is a very realistic option for me. There is a very good chance that I will be getting ...

Re: Commitment

I walked away from being balls deep in music at one point It was a conscious decision at the time, but still don't know why. Just a gut decision. Think it might be because I didn't want it to be the "be all and end all" for me. I would hate for it to be a "job", the fear I would somehow become inse...

Re: Some Thoughts on Headphone Mixing

Very good question. I`m no expert here, but checking the impedance and sensitivity of the ER4`s, both are easy to drive, so I would say if you have a decent soundcard (focusrite entry level is fine, knowing their headphone specs) then you are fine, which is what intuitively I would have said anyway...

Re: Some Thoughts on Headphone Mixing

Proximity and dynamics are the biggest problem with headphones. You have to reference a lot to get it, but I do a lot of (production) work in headphones despite having 2 studios and 2 sets of high grade monitors. 1stly what headphones are you using? You need very good phones (or in ear monitors, I ...

Re: Techno in Asia

Thanks man I really appreciate that, it was much needed for me as I was stuck in the routines of regular life. The trip recharged my battery to the point where I am starting to dream big again. May I ask how it is possible for you to live in Thailand and make such travels? You must make a very dece...

Re: Techno in Asia

Man, I definitely recommend checking out Japan. My girl and I were there a few months back and it's one of my favorite places I've been to. Their sense of space and general aesthetic taste left a deep impression on me. Minimalism, yes, but a refined minimalism where nothing is left amiss. And then y...

Re: Techno in Asia

I'm living over here in Ho Chi Minh at the moment and I haven't found much in the way of techno, but there's a couple spots with some proper house. I've been living in Asia for 3 out of the last 5 years (couple different spots in Thailand mainly) and it's a bit of challenge to find something outside...

Re: Is Soundcloud still the 'go to' music hosting site?

Okay, so if these services are shit (and I agree) what is it that you guys really want from such a platform? If you had your ideal vision of such a company, what would it provide differently or do better than what these guys (Soundcloud, Hearthis, Orfium, Mixcloud, etc.) are currently doing?

As an update on the ear training... I've been doing at least an hour a day for the past few days and the difficulty does not seem to scale with the increase in 'levels'

Oh Deary, Mr. Leary

Haven't shared anything with you guys since I've been active so I thought I'd post a short clip of what I'm working on now, just to see where Lynx is at :ugeek:

Obviously, far from finished, non-mixed, etc., etc...

Re: Ear Training

I was unaware that the characteristics between compressors differed so much.

Time to dig deeper.

Does this hold as true for software as hardware?

Re: Ear Training

Agreed on all accounts.

I'd love to see a bit more complexity to the games such as attack/release/ratio settings for compressor, etc.

Good enough for now

Re: R.ichie H.awtin's new mixer

It's actually more Allen and Heath than a new Allen and Heath. It is designed by one of the key Allen and Heath engineers and manufactured down in the original Allen and Heath plant in Cornwall. Whereas Dennon now own actual Allen and Heath and their Chinese manufactured stuff these days just isn't...

Re: Ear Training

30 minutes is 30 minutes mate and surely that 30 minutes adds up over time.

I know I spend more than 30 minutes wanking every day...

Alas, I'll keep you posted.
