Re: MOOG Drummer From Another Mother...

If I understand correctly, it's one voice for $600? Seems like a tough sell to me if it's supposed to be for percussion. But the eurorack community seem to have deep pockets, so maybe it'll sell. Not for me though. But people hating on the video for featuring women? Get over yourselves, the point of...

Re: What's on the walls in your studio / music space?

Mine looks like this all over: https://st.depositphotos.com/2163727/2716/i/950/depositphotos_27166939-stock-photo-osb-oriented-strand-board.jpg It's not particularly inspiring, but it's not particularly distracting either, so I'm ok with it. There are various posters on the walls to break it up a bi...

Re: Derrick May accused of not writing classics

I've been following the progress of this documentary, gonna be interesting when it comes out. I've seen people who would know allude to it being pretty juicy. Some of them seem to be in the shrugged shoulders 'get over it' camp, others not so much, so I guess it'll want a few cases of popcorn for th...

Re: Favourite Techno Moments/Tracks 2017

For me what amounted to the start of House of God's 25th bday celebrations in October was undoubtedly the highlight of 2017 (with the feb instalment not far behind), and the point when that night properly kicked off for me was when Sir Real dropped Special Request - Curtain Twitcher. Love that tune,...

Re: korg electribe

I put some Mullard ECC83 reissues in mine, and it is much improved on the EHX ones. More gain, less hiss. Gives added punch with a bit of warmth on the side. Maybe not the best choice if distortion is what you want though. It is definitely worth trying out some different tubes though, the stock ones...

Re: The truth about the vinyl sound

If the OP had said 'the vinyl sound' doesn't sound 'better', I'd wholeheartedly agree, but as it is I can't agree as vinyl definitely sounds different. The long list of factors that affect the sound of a particular record being played on a particular system is surely part of the whole thing anyway, ...

Re: Vermona DRM.

I've got one in my studio and have been using it a fair bit, I personally absolutely adore it. I think what other people have said about it not being a great primary drum machine are probably right, but if you've already got an Octatrack, why not just load that up with all the 'standard' techno stuf...

Re: Benefits of Using a Hardware Drum Machine?

IMO - Fun. To me a hardware drum machine is the most immediate path to techno bliss. Yes I know you can get all the sounds and more on software, and with an appropriate controller you'd barely know the difference, but I love switching one on and going from 0-techno in like 5 seconds, and you can't d...

Re: Korg Monologue / Minilogue - Thoughts?

I've been wanting a Minilogue and have nearly got the cash now. I do have a question for owners of the mini or monologue though. When sequencing them externally (my intention), is it still very straightforward to use the motion recording? Aside from the sound of them, this is one of the standout fea...

Re: how hard is it to put on a show where you live?

I'm not one for nostalgia and the old 'In my day...' But let's face it. Clubland in the UK is dying if not dead already. The rents have meant that the weekly club night is pretty much dead, aside from a few big clubs. More so in towns outside of London. All the 'top draw' dj's now command more mone...

Re: Resident Advisor on Tinnitus - everybody should read thi

I suffer, undoubtedly as a result of 17 years of djing and more still of loud music combined with a youthfully cavalier approach to ear protection. Anyway, generally speaking it doesn't bother me that much, but the last few months I've actually found it quite annoying. I am in the middle of what is ...

Banging party tunes

My set from a rave a few weeks ago, figured as I had uploaded it, might as well share it here. Re: New roland synth.. SE-02

Yeah to be fair Pulse 2 is something else entirely, just popped into my head when thinking about small 3osc monosynths. I have a volca keys which is pretty tweezerish, but as it was £100 I'm ok with that. For £500 I wanna be able to throw my elbows around and get my vinegar face on the go when I'm p...

Re: New roland synth.. SE-02

I do like the sound of it, but for that money I'd want it to be a bit bigger really. I don't actually have a massive problem with the boutique size if the price is right, I picked up a JX-03 for £210 and that seemed fair to me - tiny synth (but sounds ok), tiny price. But spending £500 and having to...

Re: Injecting politics into techno

On the subject of UR: A lengthy and decent interview with Mike Banks was aired on Benji B's Radio 1 show on Thursday. Well worth a listen, I'm sure everyone here knows Mad Mike interviews are rocking horse shit rare, and it's a good interview. Obviously lots of excellent music as well. Politics in t...

Re: Just bought a korg ES-1, anyone used one on here?

I used to have one, they're mega fun imo. They sound pretty nasty, but in a good way. Not much memory to work with, but definitely enough to cause some trouble. I didn't have a smart media card, but it's easy enough to just record stuff in, and I think smart media cards cost an arm and a leg these d...

Re: No longer is DJing just a man (or woman) behind a desk..

So the 'big deal' about all this is that the visuals are of him pushing the buttons that play the music? DJing on two fucking desks instead of one so he can look like some sort of EDM Jesus? I got bored of bashing the reverse techno Samson a long time ago because it is just too easy, and I actually ...

Re: Thoughts on 'Techno' courses?

I watched some of a preview for the Mark EG one that was being advertised recently. It looked quite good. His delivery was decent and he was getting straight to the point - fucking pounders! What he was doing in the demo bit wasn't hugely interesting to me, but the vibes were good, seemed to me like...
