Re: Any "Music Pool"?

Really I agree with everyone else, you should buy your music. It supports artists and labels and the costs are very low given what you get. But, there is a new service coming out, it isn't really for me so I turned down the invite, but you might be interested: https://www.pulselocker.com/ It works i...

Re: Some questions about updating RAM

Hi Kyro. The reason we think it is the CPU is because this is quite a common issue and we have seen it many time. There is a very interesting forum topic here: https://forum.ableton.com/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=111880 I have an i7 950 @3.07GHz and I run out of CPU sometimes. To show what I mean I have ad...

Re: New vinyl cartridges - need suggestions!

Ortofon DJ, which are blue, are what I use. I can't comment on how durable they are compared to others as I have used them for years. I replace mine every year, but I use them a lot and I am sure I could get much longer out of them, but I want to treat my records well. They come as DJ E – elliptical...

Re: New vinyl cartridges - need suggestions!

Okaaay, this is very cheap! http://matelectronics.com/prestashop/en/search?orderby=position&orderway=desc&search_query=shure&submit_search=Search Like I said, I'm not really into sound quality as I just need em for timecode vinyl. I still buy vinyl but I never play it (why I do it is beyond me) so ...

Re: New vinyl cartridges - need suggestions!

If you're using Serato have a look at the Shure M44-7, they aren't the greatest sounding but that doesn't matter for your purposes, they're famous for tracking well and they're not too expensive compared to, say, a lot of Ortofon carts. I'd probably only recommend Ortofon to people who play actual ...

Re: New vinyl cartridges - need suggestions!

I play vinyl and I swear by the Ortofon DJ S, but they aren't cheap.

I think you should look at the Ortofon OM MF7, although you would need to buy thecart as well the first time:

Re: Some questions about updating RAM

The problem with asking for technical advice on the Internet is if you don't know if the person giving you the advice is someone with 20 years’ experience in the IT industry or an enthusiastic amateur who only has a bit more of a clue than you. My point is before you spend lots of money maybe you sh...

Re: Some questions about updating RAM

Hi, Changing your HDD and adding extra memory will make you Macbook a bit faster, but I really don't think that is what the problem is. I am sure the reason you are getting audio glitch/drop outs is your CPU is working too hard. You can check how much memory Ableton is using with Activity Monitor (i...

Re: Back up back up Back up!!

My advice is if you can do both RAID and online backup, great. But if you can only afford one, go with the backup. It is like insurance, it is annoying paying for it especially if you never use it but if you have nice stuff you need it. Also, unless you spend some serious money on a RAID controller ...

Re: Back up back up Back up!!

This is good for home users:

$50 per year for unlimited data storage. The first backup will take a while, it is best to set it up to run overnight (most ISPs don't count overnight usage if you are limited). After the first backup the rest will be quite quick.

Re: Back up back up Back up!!

Fault tolerance is different from backup. If you accidentally delete a file, you can restore it from a backup. Fault tolerant drives won’t help with that at all. RAID drives are used for high availability. Servers will use RAID drives and redundant power supplies and, for that matter, co-located fai...

Re: Back up back up Back up!!

RAID systems aren't backups. RAID is used to add fault tolerance or improve disk read and write performance or both. Fault tolerant RAID are either a mirror or and stripped set with parity, and in those situations if you lose a drive you are able to continue working. But if you lose two drives for s...

Re: Where do you buy your music from?

I buy records from shops (BM Soho, Phonica etc) and I will go every two weeks. Online I use Juno or Discogs Marketplace (which is both brilliant and dangerous) and sometimes ebay. I have a monthly budget for record spending so I don't spent too much :D I do buy a few digital tracks and I use Juno do...

Re: One for the vinyl headz

A good thing. I still buy vinyl but I don't care about getting first pressing or anything like that, I just want the music as it was in the original.

I've got quite a few represses that have come on really good quality heavy vinyl which I like.

Re: NI Summer Sale

It is too early to tell if it is worth it. I like the controller, the pads are really nice, and so far I have found it quite inspiring, but that happens with new toys - if it carries on is what matters. I am worried about fitting it into my workflow, but I am going to give it a go. The sale finishes...
