Re: Anyone On Here Strictly Use Logic ?

@seanocean: what is "G.A.S."?.. Gear acquisition syndrome. if i had my druthers i'd go without a daw but as it stands to date you kind of need that computer sound to compete. everyone works in daws and they do provide their own character to the result. be it cleaned up or less roughly mixed as you'...

Jeff Mills Live Soundtrack work to Lang's Woman in the Moon

This is happening in my neck of the woods. Maybe keep an eye out for Jeff Mills to come to your town with the same performance?

Re: It's All Sounding Good Until..

Throw it all down into arrangement as quick as you can. Eq and mix as you go along. Save different versions. Have time away from that track and work on several tracks at once. Force it a bit and it will become like second nature in no time. agreed here.. and that's something i want to work toward, ...

Re: Anyone On Here Strictly Use Logic ?

distant voice:: I strictly use logic as my DAW [quickly looks both ways and ducks] mostly my deal is that i use it as a place to record my gear. i guess the same would be anyone with G.A.S. the 'big tape machine' concept is pretty common with logic as it turns out. in which basically you use it as a...

Re: Ambient Topic

my admittedly naive idea of ambient is : any music that tends to emphasize non-rhythmic elements even if the tune still has a perceivable rhythmic element. didn't want to jump in here but.. i go with eno's description of how he came up with ambient. "music you don't listen to" which according to wi...

Re: Hardware sequencers

i've wanted to go mold school and go for one of these for awhile. http://www.mmt8.com/ something about it appeals to me. maybe i'd grab it to see how people used it in the past to understand sequencing from another point of view.. or just have it around to sequence something without a computer. also...

Re: Ear Protection (gig situation)

Never attempt to crank up your headphones to overtake the monitor system, lower the monitors instead. yeah completely.. you should alter your djing style if you monitor your headphones over the main mix. the softer you play in one ear vs the other, the easier it is to distinguish which is the main ...

Re: SH-101: Wiring for CV, Gate, Hold + CLK

yeah when the CLK is engaged if you run the envelope on LFO the sequerncing is in time and punchy but the LFO isn't on clock.. though if the lfo is on zero the timing is super on point. though the machine runs really great with CLK running and with the ENV on gate. really rich timbres found there.

Re: SH-101: Wiring for CV, Gate, Hold + CLK

big help, thanks! i was looking at a beatstep recently. maybe a cool way to get step sequencing into that beast. any deviation in timing is great. i've been using 32nd note scale from my 707 to get some really interesting patterns out of the 101. last up.. can you sync the LFO in any way? or is that...

SH-101: Wiring for CV, Gate, Hold + CLK

SH-101.jpg does anyone have any experience wiring the Sh-101 for cv-gate and what do you use or how do you set it up? this question has been on my mind since day one of getting my SH-101 and that was a long time ago. i've never really payed attention to it because i've been getting decent results o...

Re: Waldorf Blofeld

i have a blofeld, i think it's a very practical synth. Patrick DSP helped develop this editor. YzIW0KOB7uw it's kind of glassy admittedly, but i find the sounds that come out of it emotional and powerful. everybody's up in it for pads, ambient soundscapes and stuff but i think you can squeeze just a...

Re: Techno Music Production Videos (Please post YT links etc

been watching this here and there while trying to get a grasp on fm synthesis in my dx7ii i've heard a lot about how modulators have been used similar to cut off. but i think i've not had such a better explanation as dean from the new york school of synthesis.. Re: kill your darlings

when i hear 'kill your darlings' it means to me, be objective about your track, delete what doesn't need to be there even if it means killing off something that you're really in love with. like that synth patch you worked on sounds super legit. but the track really doesn't need it. so go throw it in...

Re: Levels

Everything is relative. There are no "this setting always" for anything in mixing. Have your master set to 0db and mix in to it. totally agree. also +1 on on putting a compressor on the master bus and mixing to that. you don't have to use the compressor on the master bus when bouncing tracks for ma...
