Re: How do you guys listen to music?

Just going to say, if you have a chance, set up a hi-fi stereo system and sub around your bed. Nothing like it really and it's easy to do since used stereo receivers are super cheap. If you can find a good set of old pioneer speakers or some towers your family's not using, it's really lovely.

Techno Album CD Recommendations

I've been on a mad CD bender for about half a year.. I've been collecting CDs from techno artists from early early on through til present. Why? because usually a few ever got made and new CDs by current artists are a nice way to keep a hard copy of your collection on disk. Also I like spacing out to...

Re: Do you think it's necessary for artists to have vinyl?

vinyl presents scarcity, value and presents itself as a great bullshit filter. if you have to feel like you need to output everything you have as an artist into the great wide open it mkes people feel like they can pass on some of your tracks cause they'll always be there. also the expense of vinyl ...

Re: How do you feel about the 1:30 clips on SoundCloud?

i see track snippet eps as decent summation for what's the artist's intent. i'm basically a real asshole when it comes to buying music.. even from artists i really trust and admire. i don't just pick up any track and it always has to be super good to put down a buck fifty. in essence, my bullshit fi...

Rave Archive: classic mixes

http://ravearchive.com/mixtapes Setting filters for techno is pretty difficult but there's a ton of DJ mixes here from back in the day. Hey, remember when DJing was an artform bro? there's a lot of great mixes from heads that really inspired me to DJ way back when... including this dj rush mix whic...

Re: Your biggest revelation/breakthrough?

I'm not sure if i'm close to professional, but i do know a few things. one minor epiphany was that ideas come in layers . If you just have one idea and play it out, it's boring, but if you have layers of ideas all talking to each other and working together, suddenly it can become way more interestin...

gotta say carl craig all the way. nobody sounds like him. nobody ever will. i think his more out there ideas are hard to understand at first but after awhile you really start to understand where he's coming from.

Re: How to get that techno sound?

This is the thread that just keeps on giving. Did I seriously read about the future of Techno being to look inwards to my City? So I could write some South East Coast Techno, inspired by my view of the Thames, Chav neighbours and Supped up hatchbacks. nah but your music can be a reaction against th...

Re: Ensoniq DP4 / DP2

I own a DP4+, great piece of gear, quite inspiring. I had to change the battery, it wasn't too complex, although you'll have to do some soldering because the original is put practically directly on the main board. If you can get your hands on one, go for it, but check all inputs and outputs. Think ...

Re: Ensoniq DP4 / DP2

i picked up a DP/2 earlier in the year , but the previous owner sold it with a bad battery (and maybe a host of other issues). i think with all ensoniq gear you should be aware that they need some maintenance. i LOVE the sound of the DP series. but this is the second piece of ensoniq gear i've had t...

Re: How to get that techno sound?

I've noticed that the styles change from one country to the next- as most trends /styles do.If you are producing your style of Techno, then start to remove pieces from your arrangements and approach it from a minimal perspective and concentrate on build up ( if you haven't already). rerail the thre...

Re: What music inspires you to make UNCE UNCE UNCE techno?

been thinking a lot that the reason why techno sounds all the same recently is because it is derivative and the next generation didn't come from somewhere else. jeff mills was into industrial.. lots of people were into electro and hip hop... these genres became antiquated and people forgot that tech...

Re: In the Internet age, why do people still listen to shit?

idk, maybe it's information overload really. there's TOO MUCH input all at once. you get a blinding white light shown in your face, you can't really get a chance to know what it is or what it actually looks like. so in that sense,i do think some technology is in effect here. but for a lot of people,...

Keep Your head Up.

I've stumbled upon these graphics done by anna vital and i have been thinking about them a lot since techno is kind of lonesome and challenging music where if you don't see results, you might be thinking you're barking up the wrong tree sometimes. i thought i would share them because they've helped ...

Sound design for a purpose?

I've had this come across my mind a few times in the last day or so, do you design a synth for a purpose or do you make a synth and find the purpose later? I've had trouble with this because, I've had a lot of success just making patches without any sort of purpose whatsoever and then if i surf thro...

Re: Octatrack or Analog rythm?

I`m still learning my Octa and I've had it for a couple of years now.. yeah.. this is the thing. had it for half a year and i'm just starting to see it make some sense. the Octatrack has a different workflow than anything out there. almost as complex as the MPC in the ways it does things. if anyone...
