Re: One long ride effect ??
I know what you mean too. I have heard this before, sometimes more obvious than others. At times it really does sound like the sound is either looped or at least constant. I came across a free sample pack of ( I think it was an old MC 505 collection ) and in there were rides that were actually loope...

Re: What Monitors / Headphones do you use?
I hadn't known about these headphone type monitoring plugins before I read this thread and I'm a bit interested to try out some demos. How do you use these though? Is it something you mix into and then turn off and render, or is it something you are putting on the master on say a previously mixed do...

Re: These pad are awesome!
Sorry to hear about your sister bro, I lost my brother in law to cancer 2 yrs ago and my Mum 2 yrs before that to the same. It's funny how music can have so much value and importance at such times for people 'outside' of music. For us who are into it, it's a life thing and it's 24/7 ... :) Music is ...

Re: These pad are awesome!
I just wanted a synth that could do rompler type stuff, I know Omni isn't soley a rompler and a synth in its own right but it can be and for pads and textures, it was the best thing that I personally came across software wise. I was saying before that I'd like a K2000, I know they're old now but I j...

Re: These pad are awesome!
I'm quite into Deep House & Tech House and pad sounds, I've heard those tracks before and hear loads of tracks with interesting pads on them. Apart from analog / hybrid synths, there's great pads to be found in a lot of the older digital type synths and romplers, stuff that would probably otherwise...

Re: Music theory
I never used to bother with any of this until I had a talk with a guy off Mindtours called Steevio, who I learned a lot from in regard to mixing with frequencies and waveforms in mind. It's a fascinating subject either way but I have to say, using some of the ( really quite simple ) techniques and ...

I have these two: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Harmony-Computer-Musicians-Michael-Hewitt/dp/1435456726/ref=pd_bxgy_b_img_z http://www.amazon.co.uk/Composition-Computer-Musicians-Michael-Hewitt/dp/1598638610 Find them both useful, probably the composition for computer musicians moreso than the harmony one...

Re: Music theory
If you plan on making your song the key in G minor then you need to transpose it ( in the sampler ) until the root note hit the << G >> frequency. Obviously, it helps when you start with a kick that's near the key of the song you plan to make. If you transpose a sample too much it sounds usually ki...

Re: Music theory
There was another thread on here similar to this one, I chipped in with what I consider important but I think I upset someone... I like theory, it fascinates me, but that's just me and I can only speak for myself. I think it's more important to internalize what you're doing so you understand and kno...

Another one here who always calls it Devastator. Strange, I'm guilty of remembering the phaser as Fartozan as well anyway, so what does that tell me

Re: First hard synth ideas?
I always think if someone wants ideas for a monosynth ( analogue? ) they should think about a Roland SH-101. Maybe I just like them, which seems ironic just now because I don't have one ( I had to force a quick £425 sale for auto repairs ) but I really rate the 101's, so much more to them than just ...

Re: First hard synth ideas?
I've always fancied picking up a Neptune 2. http://cdn.mos.musicradar.com/images/Future%20Music/Issue%20197/FMU197.rev_spectrl.nept_frt_prev-630-80.jpg They were just over £300 when they came out but seem to have gone under the radar a bit. Could be a little known hidden gem! No idea what they'd go ...

Re: Polyrhythms
Man, I'd love to get into polyrhythmic stuff a bit more but I just don't know how it fits in with my music. I have experimented with a 4/4 kickdrum and deliberately left out any snare/clap on the 2&4 as I feel this 'ties' the groove up into making you think it's 4/4 based ( so you expect 4/4 rhythms...

Re: Best cheap headphones for production (£60 ish)
Brand new or used? Audio-Technica do a pair for £49, the ATH-M20x. Got 8/10 in a magazine recently. I had a pair of ATH-M50's but there right out of your price range. I got rid of them, found them bass heavy, I hated the coiled cable and they squeezed my head like a melon that they gave me headache ...
