Re: To compresss or not to compress

1. Channel Comp: Tighten snare, tame transients.
2. Buss Comp: Gel Percs together
3. Master Comp: Apply super glue to the mix

Simple-termed thought-process, but I’m thinking this is a recipe to squash the track completely in theory.

To compresss or not to compress

Random question I thought of while sitting at work. So say you have a compressor on a snare, then you have that snare sent to a percussion buss with a compressor on it, and then you have a master channel compressor. Effectively you are compressing a sound 3 times? This can span over a lot of element...

Re: Power Conditioner

Plugged the speaker straight into the wall and it was humming/hissing upon powering on (Tested multiple rooms). Wasn’t the normal hiss that you sometimes hear either. Ended up shipping it back to the manufacturer for testing and they could not replicate the noise oddly enough. Either the transformer...

Power Conditioner

Any recommendations on a power conditioner to plug gear into? Was told by a technician that my monitor hum was due to dirty power. Figured it would make sense to use a conditioner for the synths also. Appreciate any help.

10-15 percussion channels again, seems like overkill.

Add compression on to that....well...
I want to hear these mixes.
I won’t put the guy on blast, but I’ll DM you a track.

Re: Compressing synths?

Haha. 10 does sound like a fair amount, but when I consider commercial mix projects I so, some big projects can get up to that. Just completed mixing down Israel Vines new album and I think the number was around 10 comps on some songs. I wouldn't worry about it too much unless you are ramming the s...

You ever just chuck them on individual channels?

Re: Elektron Digitone digital polysynthh

I’ve sat down with it less than 10 times Void. Every time something very interesting comes out. It might be fucking horrendous, but it’s always interesting. It’s very rich, very complex, and VERY full. I send some to the El Capistan a lot. I cannot wait to run it through some reverbs. I love it man...

What's your opinion on his album tho?

Antibiotics and your ears

So turns out I have an acute ear infection. I was prescribed Ciproflaxcin. Didn't think much of it until I did some research on this antibiotic... And boy did I find some serious shit. A lot of these ototoxic antibiotics are presumed to cause potential hearing loss as well as tinnitus. Do you guys h...

Re: Soundcards

Well in the grand scheme of things it actually does matter. I contacted Focusrite Support and they also expressed their frustration with this missed feature.

Re: Soundcards

on the focusrite you should be able to just leave all knobs turned completely down for line level stuff. only really need to mess with them for microphones I've found the audio level to be low with this method. My synth is set at max volume and is only peaking at -50 Db with the input gains at thei...

Re: Soundcards

The one gripe I have with my 18i20 is having a separate input knobs that control levels for each channel. Most of my gear is stereo, so I have to adjust say input knob 3 & 4 to achieve unity gain and I'll always be off by like 0.5DB on say channel 4... and yeah it might not be all that noticeable au...

Re: Soundcards

I figured as much. Now does this change when a mixer is thrown into the loop? The reason I ask is because I was speaking with an individual who was raving about the Apollo Twin Mkii Quad and how "everyone" has it and it has great output. What really justifies the price tags on these Apollo, RME, MOT...

Re: Soundcards

So I was testing out monitors at a nearby shop and the "audio expert" there essentially started trolling my choice of using a Focusrite 18i20 with my A7X's. I've been under the impression that it realistically didn't matter what card to use for monitor output. This guy was absolutely adamant that a b...

Re: Another mid budget monitor thread

Had a chance to test the Gen 8040's and CMS 65's next to the A7X's. There were some lower-tier Presonus monitors, but they weren't worth checking out. The store monitor room had no treatment and all of the monitors were essentially stacked on top of each-other. Absolute shit acoustics all throughout...

Re: Another mid budget monitor thread

Read on GS that MunroSonic is being liquidated and that their warranty is essentially worthless. Some people were complaining of blown amps with no way to get a replacement/repair (Take it with a pinch of salt since it is GS after-all). Going to some shops tomorrow and i'll see if they have Presonus...

Re: Another mid budget monitor thread

For some reason Senko, I was seeing A7x but my mind was saying A77x. So actually, there is quite a lot within your budget that will give you better performance. I'm highly confined to making a purchase based off of 'sheet stats'. There's not really anywhere within a 50-100km radius that stocks prop...

Re: Another mid budget monitor thread

Those Eggs seem to be proper, thanks. Ugly as hell, but hey as long as they do the job.

So it's between the Eggs, Gen 8040B, CMS 65, and KH 120.

I'll find some time to test them (if they're even available here) and will decide from there.

Open to any other options.
