Re: Books that somehow relate to techno production
Milanello1, Your best course of action is to sit down and play with the DAW, practice making music. Nobody ever learned to play the guitar by watching a video of someone playing the guitar. If you want to understand delay/reverb/compression, then take what you hear/see in tutorials and apply it to s...

Re: any tips on how to get music shared/listened to??
Tips to get you, as an artist to be listened to. The first part of getting people to know and like your stuff is to know and like people. This is probably the only rule of business that an up and comer really needs. Get out there and talk to people, when you are a one man show, the only promoter of ...

Re: software frustration
No shit. I bought Reaktor. What a fucking mistake that was! They have my email addy now and mail me at least once a week to let me know they are lonely and would I like 30% off a cross dressing upgraded whore that will be free next week? Cunts will likely never see my money again just because they ...

Re: Master Bus Compression
I mix into Satin as Steve recommended to when it came out. It's been one of the best bits of advice I've picked up from here. And of course EQ is the most important element. It's scary how well Satin can polish anything from big macs to turd burgers and everything in between. I have to keep it turn...

Re: DAW (Ableton, Logic etc...) project templates
Useful things to put in a project template (ableton specific): - EQ on each channel type (audio/midi/return/master). - Utility on each channel type (audio/midi/return/master). - Spectrum analyzer on master channel. - Sampler/Simpler on audio channel. I used that as a default template for a while, bu...

Re: What do you think? - overall mixing&sounddesign -
Gonna listen to this another hundred times today. I agree percs don't have to be forward in the mix, but I think after the breakdown the snare could come a bit more forward just to give it some more excitement. Other than that there's one sound that's panned hard right after the breakdown that reall...

I listened to the whole thing without twitching or clicking through. I agree with the reverb comment, I think it could be dialed back, other than that I think it's a decent track.

Re: Master Bus Compression
Yea in theory i agree that control is good, although having continuous control to be able to go back and change things very late in a projects evolution doesn't always help and could hinder workflow and productivity. Maybe its just lazy/ignorant/unknowingness to do it on the master rather than sett...

Re: Master Bus Compression
I'm on the same page, but 90% != 100% and having control over what happens to that 10% can be all that matters. Even now, you may glue your drums together, and further glue some synths together, then you may pump those synths based on your drums, so your whole mix may receive some compression at som...

Re: Master Bus Compression
Hey Willem, Do you think you needed to use the master bus to create this compression pump groove, or could you have just bussed out only instruments necessary to create the groove. This is always where the argument for master bus compression falls down for me when used to pump the mix instead of glu...

deodorant a towel a spare shirt ball cap (spare one if you wear one while dj'ing - dry clothes are imperative). a jacket (if you play early and stay late, could be quite cold). hand sanitizer (gotta shake lots of hands in a club, wanna get sick?) beer cozy, portable cup, water bottle, flask - never ...

Re: Abletons Supposed poor PDC... how to avoid it?
I believe we've already discussed this in another thread. PDC happens in every DAW, in fact it's the only way to have plugins work at all. The problem is when your computer can no longer process audio quick enough to spit it out to the audio interface in realtime. That problem is solved by either le...

Re: Acoustic treatment, where to start?, what to do?
Anyone ever try upholstery foam for this instead of rockwool? I presume it wouldn't be as dense, but can come in different densities to suit the hardness of seats, backrests etc. I might check the specs and see if they make any sense .. Seems to be a difference, not sure how much it applies to soun...

Re: Acoustic treatment, where to start?, what to do?
Got some foam for a fair price. Wanting to treat my room a bit. If you can engineer how to get that foam into a much thicker ( at least 2") form then you could probably put at least a dent into the ringing in your room. Unfortunately it's not really all that great at dampening anything unless you t...

Re: Landr _ Online Mastering Robotr _ RA Review
I think there's a fair amount in mastering that does fit in the 'if this then that' methodology, but what I think separates the wheat from the chaff here is that the machine will only be able to make judgements on a model or specification of the waveform, whereas the mastering engineer will have to ...

Re: Compression is supposed to make RMS go up right?
I was actually parroting an article that I had read, I believe the latency in compression they were speaking of was due to the signal path, so this is either an outboard digital compressor, or a compressor that uses and outboard DSP chip (a'la UAD etc.). Additionally the article is quite old now, so...
